Key not turning in barrel

squeakme, Aug 12, 2:34am
Got a 96 Terrano.
Took it out today, came back home. Went to start it again ten mins later. Key would not turn in barrel. Truck in park on shifter. Steering wheel lock will not disengage.

Tried giggling, crc in barrel.
Swearing doesn't seem to do much.

Is the hand brake on! some cars they are all interlocked.

Sometimes putting your foot on the brake while you wiggle the key helps and turn steering wheel at the same time

don't use crc in the barrel, use graphite powder.

kazbanz, Aug 12, 3:01am
take the weight of the steering wheel off of the ingnition switch

Tried graphite too. That was first.

turn the wheel hard against the steering lock towards center and try again.

I have an automatic navara 1996 model with the same problem. I have found that lifting the key at 1 o'clock /2 o'clock angle will let the key turn . I think it is just wear and tear in the ignition barrel . I've done 312km.What km has yours done!Do you do frequent stop starts!

Forgot, foot on brake doesn't work.
turning steering wheel to unload ignition lock doesn't work

Had this problem - took barrel to locksmith who found the first 2 wafers slightly bent. Straightened them - perfect now.

I think if you put John Key in a barrel and rolled it off a cliff he'd turn ok
