Failed WOF. Can I get it rechecked somewhere else?

My Toyota has never had problems getting a WOF apart for Wiper blades or the odd light bulb or tyre, which was through a Toyota dealership. I Moved city, so changed to a different mechanic who has noted about 15 problems to be fixed. My question is can I take it somewhere else for a recheck and WOF! Or are the problems already in the system so will just have to be repaired where ever it goes anyway!

You can go to another test facility for a check and will pay for a wof check. The faults will be noted but not the specifics of the faults just the general terms. I would though STRONGLY recommend you have a freind who has mechanical knowledge check the vehicle over for you to see if they are in fact legitimate issues before wasting 40-60 on a recheck. Issues that are borderline can all just happen at the same time--sods law It would be usefull though if you listed the 15 issues as we can tell you if they are major or minor

You can just go somewhere else and pay for another check, doesn't matter that its in the system or not. And those things that are in the system generally show up after the next check is done anyway.

VINZ testers have no reason to fail on petty things, many garages do.

it will be on the system but the computer check is the last part so they will do the paper work 1st and pass/fail you, then do the computer side of things. if they have passed you on the paper they cant undo that when they see it has been failed somewhere else. who is to say the faults weren't fixed between it failing somewhere and you going somewhere else. If the one that initially failed you and the next one fails you, they have both been doing their job.

All that is in the system is a fail. No other info.

Start taking the bus. Your car is suppose to be up to wof at all times, not just the magical WOF check. It's appalling that your car has 15 faults at one time. Even if the inspector is over tough, I suspect it still has quite a few faults that should be fixed.

The info on the computer is very generic and does not specify the problem, only that there is a problem.

They will mark down in the system which item/s failed (the number next to it) so the next wof station can see what failed but wont know why. You can always ask for a second opinion from another agent but will have to pay the fee again - and if fail again (for same or more reasons) then that was wasted $. So basically is it worth the risk!

i took mine somewhere else after the 28 days. they didnt mention anything and i passed. not sure if they would mention it if it was within the 28 days though. 15 things wrong with it, that must be a record

thats great news about whats stored on record and knowing that the joe blogg garage issues the wof sticker if its passed then updates the computer system re data entry at the end as testing stations do have some over picky inspectors that hit you with bullshit things that are stated as unsafe saying to replace and yet passed by others and when asked if that part was safe and say nothing wrong with it will never take it to an over priced $55 testing station again will stick to my $20 dollar wof garage in auckland stoddard rd
