Restore it with alpine trim/engine, would be a nice fun old car. We used to have an old avenger as the family hack, oh what times they were.

Will take a bit to skrink the roof if its been jumped on, probably easier to replace the roof skin

Avengers are going for good money now as getting rare, recently sold two 1974 Hillman Avengers with Rego and new WOF.one a Super for $3000 and the other an Alpine for $3300. Bear in mind that the Hillman Avenger (1970-76) is worth double the Chrysler Avenger (1977-81) Best to get one that's still got rego or is on hold, as it only needs a WOF to go back on the road, like the one in auction 510101599. De-reg cars are more hassle to re-vin as they're stricter on rust. Avengers are great old school cars with lots of new and used parts still available. There's an active club at www.avenger.co.nz with over 100 members.

Unless a panelbeater (or is it body repair tech these days!) says the roof dent can be portapowered out quickly and easily and the other rust sorted, I'd avoid even at a couple of hundred bucks. Not much point when road legal minters can be had for 15-2000., revinning and repairs could easily gobble the thick end of a grand, maybe even more if other bits like brakes and suspension need attention. Unless you want to buy or borrow the gear to fix it and the kid is prepared to learn to do this stuff properly, with help of course, OR its got good mechanicals that could be useful as spares for another one.

I have an Avenger any day rather than an Escort and as most dont think that way the Avenger will always be the cheaper option.

Talk about nostalgia.worked on many as an apprentice for Chrysler and the 1600cc was heaps better than the 1300cc which honestly wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!

Those 1300's must have had dragging brakes, as they normally fly! Bernard Unett won the British Saloon Car Champs TWICE in Avenger 1300's.beating 1275 Mini's!
I know a chap locally that has a Avenger with a 253 Holden V8, built for raceing and it preform,s well in it,s class.

Avengers have a wide engine bay and a light body.ideal for a V8 conversion. One of our club members has a Chrysler 318 in his.gets lots of respect from the boy racers!.LOL
