Check spark plugs leads and water down to the spark plugs

Sounds like you have got water on the ignition system, do you have access to a air compressor. If not take your car to the servo get the tyre pump and unplug the leads connected to the spark plugs and blow the water out. It should be fine when the engine fully drys out.
Be sure to only one plug, one cable at a time so you know where it goes.
Good luck

you should not wash new cars under the bonnet . you need to put it in a garage with a dehumidifier to dry it out is your best option. then you need to check and clear the trouble codes most likely caused by the water making a short somwhere on some sensors. Post what car make model year

Just needs to be dried out try to dry inside the cap if it has one and the plugs leads and the connectors on the ends of,,, you could also have a crack somwhere and this could be causing the problem

i agree sounds like water in the ignition system,i dont think it would be plugs more like coil packs if anything, but definitly check ignition, car is rattling! or more a pinging sound!,the smell is probably heated water with oil n grease,

Not from a dizzy or plug tubes. They need to be blown out

out boi --with the older mirages theres a few places that are affected by water. Unfortunately as you have continued to drive the car you need to do everything to be sure you have done your best to fix the issue. You NEED compressed air to ensure its all fixed. First -remove all of tha spark plug leads from the plugs. remove all of the spark plugs. clean/dry the plugs -you'll find one or two are particularly sooty and wet looking on the tip. either clean that up or fit new plugs. Blow compressed air down all the plug holes to remove condensation build up down there. Id also crank the car over a couple of times before going forwards. Refit the plugs. take each spark plug cap/lead and blow compressed air into the end that goes over the spark plug. refit the plug caps. Follow the plug leads back to the distributor. unplug the leads ONE BY ONE from the distributor and blow compressed air into the hole and the end of the plug lead (do it one lead at a time to avoid mixing them up.) When this is done you need to undo 2 screws holding the black distributor cap onto the rest of the distributor.carefully pull the cap off. Blow compressed air into the cap and dry inside it. VERY carefully also blow air into the distributor itself ensuring you dont blow the rotor arm off and loose it, Put the cap back on screwing it back into place--Make sure the o ring is in place. Next--Blow compressed air around the electrical connections under/beside the distributor. Next--blow air into and around the electrical connections for the fuel injection. which are at the back of the cylinder head. I actuallly follow the compressed air with a spray of electrical compoment cleaner to remove any possible tracking but dont worry too much about that. the car should now fire up and run fine

It's usually H2O in the dizzy cap.remove the screws and simply leave cap off for 30 min after a manual wipe out. Lets the water evaporate.
PS = Be careful of the small carbon rod in the centre as it can fall out with the spring behind it.
