Dull clear coat

I just finished painting a small patch on my car, looked good but when i clear coated it, it came up a matt finish, any ideas, does it need to be cut and polished or have i mucked up somewhere, i used acrylic base and acrylic clear

Let it harden for a week or so, then sand with 2000 grit sandpaper and then buff up with cutting polish and finish off with polish.

sweet, so its ok to coat it say 5 times, then leave it for a week, using a aerosol can so figured more is better

Sounds like you have used acrylic lacquer, it always needs cutting to create a gloss. Did you put three good coats of clear on it! that's the minimum if you don't want to cut through the clear when buffing it.
edit: It may have bloomed due to the damp weather too.

Good luck sanding lacquer with 2000 grit.

yes i did use lacquer, have put 4-5 coats on so far, i tested it on a small piece and it came up really glossy, but when it came time to do the bogger part it came up in a real matt finish, what do you mean by bloomed!
is that bad

Clear can go misty white if it goes on with the room too cold

will it buff out though!

Give it a whirl shirl, if not its "start again" from the colour

snathan01, Sep 10, 4:06pm

Gloss and spray can! do those words even go together!

If you weren't using spray cans, and had access to a spray gun and compressor.

Then warming the panel up with a heat gun or hair dryer, and spraying straight thinner over the bloomed clearcoat can often remove the bloom.

But if the colour under the clear has also bloomed, then you're screwed.

Take it to a car painter and ask them if they could please please spray some slow thinners over your patch up. LOLOL.

They do but it falls off within a year
