intersections and when crawling along or reversing slowly! The rev counter is usually at about 750 when idling but drops to under 300 for a few seconds before rising back to normal. It does the same when idling if I shift the transmission from Drive to Neutral or vice versa. It only happens once the engine is warm and often but not all the time. The garage serviced the transmission 2 weeks ago which seemed to fix the problem but the same thing started happening again yesterday. The car is a Mazda Familia 1994, automatic, 1500cc.

Usually a faulty TPS, scanning will confirm, but before you go to that expense, remove the air intake tube (rubber) and thoroughly clean out the throttle body. Also another cause can be low radiator water level,.

My Sentra does exactly this if I use 91 octane instead of 95.
