now you done it lol. the problem seems he or she dont understand the basics of how it works wont make sense if you got no clue to start with.
whatch this video it shows you number 1 and 4 of the piston. the camshaft moves the same when number 1 is top the valve is either fully open or fully closed you will see the valves open and close on exchange of tdc.video shows piston movement only tdc=top-dead-center

Looking at the pics it may! be one tooth out
Turn by hand as it is with belt on one trun of bottom sprocket and check marks.
repost when done.

snoopy221, Sep 24, 5:27pm
Jaa intrade-
!Those that CAN DO!

cowlover, Sep 24, 5:27pm
I would say your motor at present is TDC firing 4 which puts the cam 180 out. From your pic I think it is not 180 but 180 +/- a tooth or so.If you say motor will turn over just turn it over 1 turn on the crank and I'll bet ya that the cam marks are either in the right place or close to it.If so you probably can just drop te belt and move the cam the tooth or so and refit the belt.I'm astouded that something so simple can require 29 posts and you are almost no further ahead.

i'M GUNNA add.
As a qualified experinced mechanic with understanding of engines-
Personaly i think engines should NOT have timing marks at all
[And a lot of them don't-lol meaning those that CAN

DO
Those that Can Not-well.]

setting valves to time with pistons is easy if you understand engines.

Ok so after all that ill turn the crank shaft sprocket 180 degrees around to the top "TAke the belt off first of course". And align those marks up. Ill take the rocket cover off any ways and see if i can make sense of it. Thanks

intrade, Sep 24, 5:36pm
whatch the video i posted to undertsand how your pistons move almost any 4 pot 4 stroker works like this yours is 4 stroke i am hunting one for the valves. your only intereste to set your cambelt timing is number 1 and number 4 piston.

fordoverholden, Sep 24, 5:36pm
It was a help thanks

Grr.will up date tomorrow. One more question, Is the cam side the number one plug!

secound 48 to 49 shows you the rocking change over when it gets to tdc thats what you have to check its got to happen on tdc top dead center . piston andand 4 its called the intake and exhaust stroke one of em will be taking in the other out again piston1 and 4 referes to the post from me and snoopy wich ever obe you understand better.

fordoverholden, Sep 24, 5:43pm
lol. Its a learning experience. So if i turn it 180 degrees to the top and align the marks where the google diagram says it should be, Then that's where it should be. But ill take the rocket cover off just like snoopy said.

intrade, Sep 24, 5:44pm
uauslly cam side is number 1 yea and 4 near gearbox. just like the animation shows

fordoverholden, Sep 24, 5:45pm
Cheers man, Will update tomorrow

One more question, Is the cam side the number one plug!

Yip Correct emundo.
no ONE Cylnder is front (Camshaft sprocket end of engine)

Its a learning experience

Yip and while you have the engine on the floor-and can ANSWER the questions you have why not learn.
Valve wise TDC Firing= both valves closed-round bit
T D Cnot firing is pointy bit.
Tappet cover off and it WILL make sense.

cowlover, Sep 24, 5:50pm
Your right but remember the marks are there for the knuckledraggers who inhabit a lot of workshops these days. Also its handy to confirm your setup is correct without having to resort to dial guages etc. Also useful for thoses odd bod engines with intermediate shafts that catch on crank webs etc.(ie Fiat - oops now I've used that nasty word LOl)

fordoverholden, Sep 24, 5:54pm
Ill give you the advice one day, You will see!. Cheers. I gotta feed the pussy lol. Catch up Gunit

snoopy221, Sep 24, 5:56pm
L M A O.didja forget the 125 after the f word.

cowlover, Sep 24, 5:57pm
Is this an interference engine cause if so here comes a lot of bent valves if you turn the motor over wihout the belt. The engine is designed so that the valves open when the pistions are not in the way.If you remove the belt and try and turn the crank you will bring the pistions up when the valves are open and all sorts of expensive mayhem will result.

Go back and reread ALL the posts as they are all saying the same thing.Make some notes and compare.

As both I and others have said you engine looks to be about right.Just turn the crankshaft (bottom) one complete turn with the belt still on and then see where your cam (top ) marks are.

cowlover, Sep 24, 6:01pm
Yip and 124, 131Rand then a few dozen various Lancias. And there then the Mitsi with the balance shafts and on and on it goes.No offence to the Op but really some posters in this MB shouldn't get out of bed there advice is so bad.

its 2 full turns its a 4 stroker 1 turn puts the mark on the camshaft only half way round not back to where it should be.

BUT haven't we decided that at the moment (the pics) its firing on 4 and not 1 therefore 1 turn of crank will put it firing on 1 which will have the cam mark in the correct place.I think I'm correct but now I'm starting to doubt myself.LOL

we dont know if or what he has done. but he or she got enough info to sort it now.

fordoverholden, Sep 26, 5:33am
I am a dork. Turn bottom sprocket. Timing marks match the top. Bottom sprocket is sitting on its marks. So when the belt came off the timing never moved. Thanks to every one for there input. It was a great help. "And confusing lol"

snoopy221, Sep 26, 8:27pm
Onya.we are ALL dorks-
But hey ya gotta learn .LOL
Well done.
