Just wanting to know the in's and out's of Saab vehicles, I haven't had much to do with them. Owners past and present, repairers and those in the know please. Any horror stories .whatever.

Great cars to own in Sweden, completely hopeless here. They seem to be owned by a small group of trainspotter types who get some sort of a turn on by the fact they are made by an aircraft company.

Had a great run out of my 1995 model 95se with 2.3 litre turbo.Done 200.000 kays and only replaced crank sensor and suspension bushes and front shocks and im not a trainspotter.Get a good comfy ride on the road and its easy to work on if i have to.

He he perhaps some of their owners think if they are high flyers they'd expect em to fly .eh!Pun. Just a random question from me the O.P. the other side of the world thing most likely would be the NO sign for me too actually. I guess some have good runs .some not and I'm thinking I don't really want to be part of the "not's"!

They look nothing like a aircraft and i dont expect it to but we all drive what we want to not what someone else thinks we should drive.

i know a guy in a wheelchair who owns one in europe he never said a bad thing about it. problem i can see is parts supply and instructions on how to fix things. i recall one saab has had a cilinder head with variable compression adjustable headgasket that came out thats probably the one that could go like a fighterjet when it does. dont know if they ever produced it as i was never a saab fan for some reason also never owned a merc as they had rich geezer immage in europe and bmw where for pimps http://www.youtube.com/watch!v=oxR-3Un6WkU also saab is no longer it filed for bancrupcy not long ago be like rover orphens now.

Gee intrade with new inventions like the internet and air freight parts for continental cars dont seem that hard to get anymore you can even get them the same week as you order them. Not like some of the NZ new cars that are available at your local dealership see how long it takes to get a part for a brand new hyundai van

They are cheap some of them, and the turbos haul, often looked at them, but unfortunatly they all had serious issues!,mainly i think because, the owners didnt maintain them, this 515499109 be good by for the price off a jap shit can death trap.

Push the sport button on mine and it will get of its backside or push winter button and its dead as a dodo.Saabs are pretty heavy to which we found out at garage when the hoist was straining to lift it up for warrant check.

Yes they built them very strong, no doubt. Shame about some of the other issues. My pommy mechanic bought one, about mid late 90s, not bad looking cars etc but its now been sitting with its gear box in parts longer than hes drivin it. We have an older one that comes into work thas a rust bucket and spends more time on the side of the road and in front of the local garage than driving as well. I had a euro (french) car for a while, whilst it never actully broke down it done some very very odd things at times that were quite dangerous. And yes in there country of origin or where there readliy available of course there will be people who get great runs out them. However in a contry where there few and far between you will hear horror stories so that where the judgement comes from.

Notice I said PUN bmc that quip wasn't aimed specifically.!
ema1,

I wasn't making bad comments at all .actually I was asking the question in the first place as I actually professed to knowing virtually nothing about them and PUNS I actually thought were mean't in jest! Scania for sure do make good trucks, I've had a bit of experience with them actually and part of the reason I posed the question about the SAAB cars was if they were in the same league really as I have had next to nothing to do with their cars as I earlier stated!

pre- 1992 ones were pretty good even if the engine was in backwards. General Motors did them no favours at all though.

I apologize if it sounded wrong i didn't mean to upset you as thats not what i intended.
ema1,

That's fine no problem .the SAAB you have there will be one quick vehicle.right. How does it go economy wise with the turbo set up! What type of turbo do they run, are they Garrett Air Researchor SAAB inhouse ! Reason I ask is .again being rather short on knowledge of the type, even though I was in the motor trade for neigh on 18 years.

Hi saab is quick and sounds nice doing it,i havn't done a milage teston fuel yet as i justlike driving it and it can stick to corners like shyte to a blanket.Ive noticed tho if i drive it using cruise control that it will use less fuel at 109 kays compared to a 100 as it will change down lots quicker on hills and really keep on moving as at a 100 kays it will wait and wait then decide to shift down, but thats in normal mode.Push sport button and it gets up a bit fast so only use it for passing.
ema1,

When did SAAB change from the 900 to the 9-3 and 9-5 models ! I believe after reading a bit of SAAB history, the later SAAB 900 and later 9-3's & 9-5'swere actually built on Opel Vectra platforms as intrade says, hmmm interesting. I quite like the early 1990 "pure" SAAB 900 3 dr coupe designs actually, something a bit different! Your 95SE one must be a real early one in the 9-5 range!

My saab is the same as the one flack88 put auction number up of except mine as full leather interior. The turbo is low compound built by saab.I was told its for fuel economy.
