at a guess, $2000! Remember when you go that deep, its never just rings and bearings. Its everything like timing belt, water pump, tensioners, clutch maybe, oil, coolant, head gasket, valve stem seals, hone the bore, and rebore oversize with new pistons if necessary.

Yes, and loss of power and using heaps of oil

if the engine is rooted then the boors will be eggshaped and you cant just add new rings. your then probably better off to replace the engine or biff the car.

Buy a new car, and not another GDi Mitsi thing.

its gotta come down to whether you think its worth dropping a heap of money on the car. Are you going to get your money's worth out of it! is the rest of the car in good condition! does it have any other possible major jobs needing doing!

Yeah we are tossing up wether to buy anew car instead. Rest of the car is in pretty good condition but we do need 2 new tyres for next warrant

Those things are dangerous vehicles to start throwing cash at when they are too old, you will just get all that done and then the trans will blow and you are still left with something worth nothing.Seen it time and time again. Bottle of stop smoke and $1 reserve and put what you get towards a decent car.

ball park MILEAGE! Generaly up around 140 to 160,000 a set of protecs and valve seals and ya sorted. But at 400,000 well-rebore and new pistons. So sorry you tell US the RIGHT things and .

Wrong, my comment applies to both transmissions, manuals are not quite as bad but they still fail.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Well in total honesty the manuals were a bit of a factory rodent special with taper roller bearings and insufficient caqsing strengthening webs to maintain preload I M H O And a time consuming assemble with solder and check crush and shim preload bearings accordingly to rebuild them correctly- However the automatics! mmmmm well um. Oh did i forget the 3rd gear vacuum switched to become fifth and the speed sensing vacuum problems!

200k! Sorry to sound blunt, but she's done.finished.as in, don't spend any more money on it. Buy a 2.4 litre, well serviced Toyota Ipsum.

bores will be fine on that engine as they are on all Sirius family Mitsubishi engines. Can guarantee it will be the oil control rings gummed up due to blocked oil drain holes in the piston skirts. Enlargen the holes, fit new rings, give the bores a quick hone and you will be fine.
Plenty of well serviced Mitsubishis doing over 200,000kms with no issues. My turbocharged 21 year old Galant with the smaller 2L 4G63 engine is on 200,000+ kms and no issues.
