to put em back on you can do the same or use a spanner when it fits . the above is for a rack-and pinion from toyota , no idea what your car is but my renault traffic had a similar screw in type thing used same plumbers wrench to crack em after removal of the savety latch

Some people have a longish bit of two inch galvanised water pipe with a nut welded on the side at one end. You slip the tube over the rod, wind a bolt through the nut and the hole in the pipe that I forgot to mention, it's under the nut. The bolt jambs the tierod's nut thingy, then you poke a bar through the hole in the other end of the galvanised pipe(did I mention that hole), and you wind the rackendoff. One pipe fits most sizes.

i would suggest the correct tool from BNT would be cheaper.and that it would be less likely to fall off if fitted by someone who knows what they're doing rather than op-

We have a great simple tool at work. Hard to describe, but its like a hoop you put over the rod, which has another bit that is on a hinge with grooved teeth in it, just put your extension/power bar in it and as you tighten it it squeezes the hoop & other bit together and turns and undoes it . really bad description, but its really simple and works ridiculously well!

Sometimes there is not much room around the tierod end, then the tube thingy is handy. cheap and simple to make too, and you can use it on your powerbar if you are a rough bugger, or whack things with it, or slide it along axles to whack bearings on ,or. or. or.

Chain wrench will probably work as well if you are a rough bugger.I've used a stilson a couple of times on rack endsTrouble with that type of wrench is it will squeeze the joint out of round if you not careful.
Available in many brands, very useful if you're doing a lot of rack ends. Hole in the end for a half inch extension/bar
