You really need to speak to a tuner who knows what they are doing, I use PROTUNE in Auckland, it isn't a cheap simple job to do either, to do it properly you need to replace the valve springs and the timing chain, and it's a labour intensive job. Done properly with other mods the gains are quite impressive and well worth while though.

how much does the complete job cost! prety keen on a nicve lumpy idle with plenty ov low to mid range torque

cuda.340, Sep 15, 7:31pm
choose a cam with a profile @50 somewhere in the 220-230 range. if you want more torque then choose the lower end of this scale.

sweet cheers. just working owt how much it guna cost and wat the power gains will be

Talk to Protune,Torque Performance or Eastern Automotive Performance Centre.

you will be lucky to get a lumpy sound like a steel v8 i cammed my ls1 vx and it just sounded like it was just idling to low go for a simple mafless tune 300kw mark cheap and effective leave the engine internals alone ls1 engines need to breath and the cam setup was round 2800 i think

z0e.., Sep 16, 3:03pm
does the m mafless tune give it a lumpy sound!

poppajn, Sep 16, 3:14pm
If all you want is a lumpy sound, just keep blipping the accelorator.

NZTools, Sep 16, 3:35pm
It is damn hard to get a "Lumpy sound" when you have fuel injection smoothing the idle out.
Also a lumpy cam (overlap) is for high rpm power, not low to midrange like you asked for.

z0e.., Sep 16, 7:19pm
there are a cuple ls1 on youtube with a nice lumpy sound!

shakespeare6, Sep 17, 7:59am
Yep our ls1 we just sold sounded bloody good real lumpy , cam /springs supplied by Kelford camsrebuilt with high comp pistons , Torque performance did the memcal and tuning.
But if you do a lot of stop start drivingand creeping along in traffic jams and it's an auto I would not botherpain in the arse

mantagsi, Sep 17, 2:50pm
+1 absolutely right.

LS1's are great fun if you want modern reliability and a good base to make some cheap easy HP, but if you want that 'old school v8', well, there's kinda only one path to go down, and that would be to buy an old v8 methinks :D good luck!

z0e.., Sep 17, 5:15pm
shakespeare- wat cam did you get and how much it cost u!

Brought it like thatincidentallythe person who built itused the standard valve springsone which decidedsmash it self to bits which ended in a top end rebuild. I would say looking at the set up you wouldn't get any change out of 4k
