I had one thrown in as part of the deal ($940) and used it once to the value of $154. Theres a few conditions to them, it,s weather you want to take the risk I guess.

i recon if you get a car checked out and dont buy one that is going to brake down anyhow then your usually better off not to get warranty but making sure it is serviced by people who do things correctly and there is not mutch places in this country who service cars correctly or if you can do servicing your self then you wont need a warranty. if you cant and you buy a car that will brake down then your somtimes better off to get a mechanical warranty but you need to follow there strict rules.

What about the CGA!

rule of thumb everything with a M in the name is going to brake down and everything with automatic transmission is also prone to brake and the more electronic there is the bigger the chance it braking also.

Depends entirely on the make / model / year / mileage of the vehicle you want to cover.

If you get one, make sure you carefully observe all the conditions re servicing. Failure to do so will void any claims.
Unless it is free or very low cost as a part of the deal, you are much better offkeeping the money and having the car very thoroughly checked out.

Correct, can vouch for that , when I worked in an Auto call centre, we also dealt with some of the major warranty companies and it is absolutely imperative you read the entire documentation and follow it to the letter, claims were denied for even one day over the service interval.

It covers the car for a reasonable period of time based on the age, mileage, and price of te car at the time of sale as well as other things. It would be ureasonable to expect the dealer to pay for a fault 2 years after purchave on a 10 year old peugeot that you paid $5000 for.

Bit easier to argue it was how the vehicle was treated as well, especially if you miss or go over due date/millage for servicing. I have heard some positive outcomes with CGA and cars tho.
Mechanical warranties usually only cover parts and sometimes only up to a certain value, but when you spend a few hundy on a mechanical warranty and the trans has a blow out which costs $3-4k to fix and mechanical warranty covers $2k of it you are going to thank yourself.

I got one as part of a deal on a s/h European car. The auto crapped itself just before the 12 month warranty ended and I got the trans fixed under warranty. The repair bill was over $2,500.

Skaife a warranty is a big misnomer. Its a mechanical breakdown INSURANCE. Like any insurance if you never have to make a claim you feel ripped off. and like any other insurance you need to be sure the stuff you need covers is covered for enough to assure total replacement on failure. or near enough to darn it given you have an excess to pay Some on here say its a waste of money. They arent the ones 2 years and 100k after you bought the car that haveto fork out (for example) $4500 for a rebuilt transmission. (10k plus in some euros)or $3000 for a second hand engine to be fitted. Yea the CGA is there but it does have limits. And what if the dealership has gone bust! As for the "conditions" heck they aren't exactly over the top I can only speak for the product I sell which is autosure. petrol vehicles service every 15000km or 12 months whichever is sooner. Claim limit $5000 per claim Theres a saying that I cant repeat on here word for word but basicly says if its got wheels, wings or baby feeding parts its gonna cost you heaps

Depends on what you buy, theres little point in buying a policy if you are buying something like an ex company owned NZ new Corolla or a Falcon for example thats been run hot and serviced well, in the unlikely even that the auto, or anything else major for that matter, might die, so what, you can get another one for under $500 plus fitting. If you do something foolish like buy a big Audi thats been used in Singapore with a non existant service history and the same thing happens that option might not exist, then yes definitely get the insurance. And don't be surprised if there is a fat loading on the premium or if only limited coverage is available. Read the fine print, get the car checked properly before buying, service the car by the book and watch the claim limits and exclusions, some of the claim limits are very low.
