Gettin into motorsport

I went to the Motokhana today and had a great time. Invercargill put out one of its finest days for it and I even got a bit sunburnt. Ill most definitely be taking it more seriously next time, probably paying attention to the rubber on my rims as first port of call, the rest of the car seems pretty sorted for what I did today. With that I think I will enter the sprints which I didnt today due to the cars configuration not being ideal for a sprint. Overall in the motokhana I placed 5th out of 29 which I am told is a very good result for a first timer and in one of the most standard, non sporty cars there (others had things like fxgt corollas, porsche boxter, type R integras and quite a few GTi pulsars).

Here is a long and boring link to our in-car footage if anyone is interested

What were you driving!
I got offered a drive of a friends 280Z last night next time its close to a track:)
Think I will go as passenger first.lol
The guys name is Jim Kelly and is quite well known in the South Island, especially in the pre '65 class.
Have quite a few race drivers as regulars in my work, Roy McDonald, Steve Ross and Brian Scott spring to mind.
Get to learn heaps from them and haven't even been on a track yet:)
Cant wait to have a go myself!
Good on ya for having a go!

Be a real man and get a rally car

Good stuff morrisman.Motorkhana's are a bunch of fun, and one of the easiest ways to get involved :-)

Personally I love motorkhana's with tons of reversing in them, because I do far better in the reversing ones! The Hopkirk turn is my favourite driving move as well.

Well done Morrisman. Not my favourite form of motorsport as I agree that it is far too hard on the car.Great to watch.(It used to be televised annually in the UK when I was a lad.)
Sprints are ideal as less hard on the car but also demand extreme precision.I had to be content with that in the UK as it was far too expensive to race!My cars were always underpowered but in the under 1300cc modifid road-going saloons class, it didn't stop me winning my class many times and an area Championship win too.Accurate tyre pressures and good handling were the key.

5th out of 29 is brilliant.Have a word with MGmad for advice as he is the acknowledged expert in that class of motorsport.

MX5's are great for motorkanas and autocross's.makes the evos and WRX's look slow

morrisman1, Oct 18, 4:03pm
yea the MX5 blitzed the others on one of the tarmac tracks, considerable margin ahead of the next competitor. It was no good on the grass circuit though

Lol, I lent my car out and did that for a girl. She parked it in a bank for me.
