There is no such law in NZ (a lot of other countries have one).
However depending on where you are you may be breaching the local liquor ban.

yes as long as there is no local liquor ban like in courtney place Wgtn you are allowed to have drink while driving as long as you are not over the limit of course

It's not just 'over the limit', it's 'under the influence'. Damn hard to prove though.

The issue may not be a legal one, though I am sure if the police saw you they would stop you, well I certainly would encourage them to do so. For me the issue is one of attitude, that booze is so important to you that you are so desparate to drink before you are in a safe environment, by safe I mean away from my family and myself. The attitude to drink driving in NZ while improved over the past decade is still abismal, where so many look at what they can get away with or hopefully not get caught, rather then hope can we be safe for all. My family are light drinkers and for us being caught under the influence is very unlikely, but always at the back of my mind is that I may loose one of my wonderful children or their spouses to someone who may be chancing their driving ability while try to get away with it.

With any sort of luck we may one day see the limit at 0.02
The present limit is to high and is allowing many people to legally drive drunk !
Fine by me, not keen on a zero limit, have no objection to people having a glass of wine or a beer with dinner, and then driving home.

I would say social factors play a huge role to. It's just when you do those dumb things socialising you're often drinking. The implication doesn't always prove causation, especially when we are talking about an article from the herald. Bunch of muppets.

I'm keen for 0 limit law. Drink any alcohol = don't drive. Nothing could be simpler or safer (with regards drinking/driving).
