contemplating buyinga 600 cc sports bike . eg ninja , r6etc. would you think 70,000 would be high ks for a 2004-5 bike, yer depends on service history but assumingno history availiable. what do you think, thanks.

I would never buy a sports bike with high kms unless I was going to part it out, 70,000kms is high for a sports bike but average for a touring bike, suspension, brakes wheel/head bearings etc will most likely need attention if no service history. You have to also think how many kms the bike will have done when you decide to sell.if over 100k's you will find it very hard to sell unless you give it away.

How much is it!600cc sport bikes are made to live in the 8000 plus rev range. If this wears the motor out quicker Im not sure but you would almost think so. However being made to do high revs also means that they are in fact built that way and should last quite well. If its had a soft life and regular servicing it may well be as good as gold. However if its been raced rallied and rolled it could be ready to explode at any time. Ride it and see how it feels. Ride a low km one for comparison. I was abit like you but just got a bike with almost 60000 kms on it. when I rode it it felt like it had 10000 if that. My bike has extensive history with it and looks bloody near as new still.
Also depends what your long term plan is. IE keep it forever! therefore any more devaluation wont matter. Race it! well if you do that your likely to rebuild it anyway at some stage.
If you have had a bit to with bikes use your gut instinct. Any issues walk away.

You will get a far better bike for that money with less kms. Bikes are cheap as chips at mo. Keep looking. Do you want a 600cc sport specificly! Are you young and bendy lol.

Keep looking, bit pricey for year/model. Own a GSXR750WW from new thats done about 98000km. Has a leaky valve oil seal on cyl 1 or 2 that can cause a little smoke on startup but other wise engine stll makes awesome power. Original clutch still, did wheel bearings at 74000 front n rear. Main swingarm bearing at 52000 (prob due to over enthusiastic cleaning). Some minor electrical issues but otherwise good. Just got new brake pad retainer pins, bit too much wear on them.
Heaps of bikes showing up with high mileage now that its less easy to disconnect speedo. There is a TL1000 in the bay that has done over 125000 also.

For what it's worth I have a ZX6 with 74,000km on the clock and it's still making good power for an older 600.

Keep looking, I pickup up a 2003 R6 (fuel injected) with 55k for $5000, had Motorcycle Doctors check it out first though. It did need the camchain replaced and a full valve clearance adjustment at this milage so you need to factor that in if its done over 50k
