So let me get this strait! you have payed big coin to get a personalized plate that you wanted which is 100% legal and because of others stupidity, lack of brains or inability read words/letters/numbers you get your plates canceled! gee wizz just amazing and very pathetic!

PP are a ripoff and anyone who pays 'big coin' are fools. BTW. crook! Thats confusing should be 'crock of shite'

I hope they at least give their money back.

I can see lawyers having fun with this one, how can NZTA prove there is criminal intent, or intent to confuse! As the guy quite rightly pointed out, if I get cashcam fines in the mail its self evident my plate is easily understood!

Thanks for your view on the plate price matter lol I myself would not buy one but that's only because I am not rich an its money I would spend on making my car go or look better and the good ones are all gone anyway. Yes 'crock' is what I meant to write but didn't see the mistake until it was to late sorry.

Exactly. If they can't tell the difference between a 0 and O (bear in mind the zero has a slash through it), then they need their eyes testing and should not be on front line traffic policing anyway.
Pathetic indeed.

They haven't always been big dollar items. So if there is compensation due I wonder at what rate!
mantagsi,
Oct 2, 5:46pm
Strange - I thought they took steps to change the font (to the outrage of a lot of people) to improve legibility - isn't this glaring evidence that their efforts were in vain! Surely they have better things to do.
Oh and to as what socram says! +100 :D

You want to have a message or statement on your car ! see your local sign writer to make a custom sticker for a fraction of the price of a PP plate, no restrictions of 6 digits/letters as well ! I generally read PP plates as a strange way of spelling wanker!

NZTA don`t get to decide Some random policeman can make that decision based on his "opinion". And as we all well know they often get things wrong. And for the record I love my PP and expect to make a decent premium on its purchase price should I ever decide to sell it.

I am always amused that the WORST drivers invariably have a PP. Have a look next time someone cuts you off or similar, bet there is a stupid plate bolted on.
pzkpfw,

So why does someone have a plate like "Q0Q0OQ" in the first place!
monaro_xxx,
Oct 3, 7:11am
if cops f^%$ up the ticket by writing wrong plate number, their problem.Im sure literacy is part of the police requirements. Confiscating p-plates. WRONG!
esprit,
Oct 3, 8:46am
I think if one gets confiscated you're allowed to get either a refund from P-Plates or to have a different plate free of charge.
m16d,

Because it's hard to read at a glance.like"HIHIIH" for an example.
smac,
Oct 3, 9:16am
It was a rhetorical question. The point being, those upset by this are crying "how can they prove it's done to confuse" when it's pretty damn obvious that's why it's done. The fact is they don't have to prove it. The target audience for a plate is enforcement, so if they say the plate is potentially confusing, then it is.
studio1,

It's all about making the cops job easier. They don't like it when it's difficult. Just the same way they don't like tinted windows on cars because it makes it hard for them to identify the driver. It won't be long before automatic number plate recognition systems are deployed in every patrol car anyway - so they'll have even less they have to do - the cameras will do it for them and flash up an alert on their data terminals if a vehicle of interest is seen.

I guess if the pigs say so it must be!
Let's not forget they also said a A-cat stock was a 'free standing military pattern' grip.
gedo1,

Anyone contacted the Police to find out how they enforce this idea!Seems to be lotsa opinions on it in here so just wondered.
thejazzpianoma,
Oct 3, 6:58pm
Wow, I havn't read the article but could see this getting really messy compensation wise. Imagine if your plate is worth $50'000 and they only offer you the few hundred for a new plate.
Why do the high up's in our Police have absolutely no ability to consider the pitfall's of their actions!
If its not stupid policy, its not finding dead body's in the boot of the killers car after having it week or creating a massive fiasco over Kimdotcom, or the Urewera lot.
