400 Miles In My 1965 Vauxhall Viva HA

tuttyclan, Sep 30, 8:40pm
Just completed a weekend road trip from Auckland to Tokoroa then over to Tauranga for a Car Club run then back to Auckland.
Thats more milage than what I would normally do in a year in this car!
Total milage is 76,360 original miles.
I even worked out the the kilometres per litre which was 6 litres per 100 km (47 MPG)

My wife's first car was a '65 Viva HA and she had a great run with it. The only major fault was when they cut the lead from the petrol and the 'new' fuel caused some rubber hose fittings to perish. Had one rubber perish and car caught on fire but luckily it happen as she started the car in the drive way and she turned the motor off before too much damage.
She liked her Vauxhalls .over a period of time she owned HA,2 x HB's and a HC.Great cars.

yea and with all this new technology the fuel consuptions are no better. Good on ya. See thats the difference between cruizing and tearing round like an idiot trying to reach a target.

Used to commute palmy to rotorua every week in my 1970 SL90 HB viva. Flash stromberg carb, hot cam, ported ad polished heads and matched headers. Good for a hundred miles an hours. Sold it to some idiots who put a 12 a in it an ploughed it into a power pole.

Car went very well even up the Kaimais mostly in third gear on the steeper parts at about 40-45 MPH (infact there was still more in reserve as the Viva wanted to wind up faster but I held back lol),I passed a lovely old 1951 Morris Minor and even passed my Dads HC Viva on the steeper parts (he took his car over as well) and it corners pretty well for what it is,(I must get the shocks done at some point as it does wallow a little bit but if you make allowances for it its just fine).Sure its not as smooth as a Honda (I know because I have one) but its fun and has charactor.

Nothing wrong with the Viva's tutts I had a lot to do with them back in my GM-H Franchise days in the motor trade days. Simple as and easy to fix and get going again if you happened to "conk out" in the whoop whoops!
HA's HB's & more so the HC and it's replacement the Chevette.
Holden Torana's were also based on the HB series Viva's but majorly re-engineered. great days they were. Boss had an English built up Viva HC 1800 for a spell ( bosses changed cars like changing shirts .type of thing.) That 1800 could stir it's stumps quite well.
We sold some Firenza Coupes as well, three I recall and I think they were 2300cc jobs.
