told by car repair guy that there is no antifreeze left in my car, just wondering can I buy the liquid at the autoshop and do it myself! is it relatively easy to do or should i just leave to the professional to do it! thanks

And I would be quite concerned about the fact you have been running around with no coolant in the system.

As u live in Akl, I wouldn;t worry about it, just keep it fill with water. If you lived in Southland then I'd put antifreeze in.

That is not the point. The additive is an anti corrosive and is worth adding.
Nireus, just go buy some from Repco and pour it in your radiator. If it is already full of water then crack open a hose somewhere and let some out

Yep and when you crack the hose, join it back up with chewing gum and sellotape.

Buy some anti freeze at supercheap or repco. Pull the bottom hose off your radiator and flush the radiator with your garden hose. put the hose back on and make sure you tighten it correctly. Add the antifreeze and top up with water. The antifreeze will tell you what ratio to use. Run the car and check for leaks.Top up water again and recheck level next day to be sure.

And turn the heater onfor a time--It helps get the air out of the system

^^^^ .and on a standard 4 door nissan car, you may also need to remove the bleed screws on or around the head, slowly top up the radiator until coolant comes out the holes, and replace the screws.Failure to do this could result in an air lock and cracked cylinder head. Look for the screws with "do not remove when hot" sticker next to them around water pump area, and on the side of the head at the other end. There will also be a drain plug for the block, low down on the block a few inches above sump level often around / under the exhaust side - if you want to get all the old coolant out.
