I've seen some as cheap as $8.00, all the way up to about $35.

yea well depend some are actuarly strechable boots for tools where you dont have to remove the cv these cost more , this said usually its the joint thats also broken once you hear it clicking means its to late to just do some new grease and boot

Thanks, yeah these are just the standard, labour intensive boots.
I did a quick search and replacing the joint as well seems to be the general consensus. I know I replaced just the boot a few years ago (maybe 5!) and the joint is still going strong. Perhaps I just got lucky!

Depends on the car, some can wear out in 60,000k, some (notablyToyota) can go 200,000k +
