On two of my tires there is a chunk approx 1.5cm long missing. (I think its called the sidewall of the tire area).
Does this require new tires! I assume the tires would be weakend! I will get my husband to take it in to tire place next week to check them out anyway.

tyre place will sell you new tyre. I personally would just keep a eye on it unless the tyre is well worn down. There is a risk but not more then the rubbish firestones that started bouldging out on the sidewall without any damage that i had . brigstone is another one also buldged out badly no visible damage.

The curbing on the rims was fixed up before I picked up the car, and then I noticed the tires. It had a new warrent, so I thought the tires would have been picked up on the warrent if they were not safe.
My husband deals with the tire place thorugh his work often, thats why I was getting him to speak to them. Otherwise I would come home with tires that may have not been needed lol.

If you can't see the canvas or cords then it is generally still ok, unless it is a really large piece missing.

Correct. In general terms, the rubber on the side walls mostly acts as a rub buffer & to hold the cords together also allowing a better degree of flex.
Anyways . yea what he said (unbeatabull) ;-)
