Silencer before muffler

motorboy2011, Oct 16, 7:36pm
I got a new exhaust system but it's a bit loud, my previous exhaust (also aftermarket, jap made, jasma approved) has a silencer before the actual muffler, in the middle section, do these have a particular name! Can't seem to find any on here, just the actual mufflers

Resonator! wait, that's the silencer isn't it! as you were lol

i believe the name you are looking for is a colby! i think, it replaces the catty converter.

morrisjvan, Oct 16, 9:48pm

n1smo_gtir, Oct 16, 9:56pm

pico42, Oct 16, 10:38pm
Yep, attracts the mice for the catty converter.

just put an open flow thro coby type in the middle b4 the rear axle, you;ll be suprised at the change.

FYI Coby is a brand which makes resonators.

OP - it is most likely a resonator

I've got a Coby muffler on my car. Brilliant. maybe you could just change the muffler to something more effective rather than add an extra one or a resonater in the middle.

Off to the exhaust shop tomorro, I don't think it bring stainless steel helps either!

r15, Oct 17, 8:10pm
looks neat though.get rid of the noise before it reaches the stainless one.

i had an old diesel caldina with a big shiny muffler after the last standard mufflet.i reckon it helped it look less shit

mrfxit, Oct 18, 7:05am
FYI . LOL, Coby is a brand manufacture that makes ALL SORTS of exhaust products including MANY designs of silencers (commonly called mufflers)

mrfxit, Oct 18, 7:13am
A resonator type muffler . Mmmmm

Basically an empty chamber that allows a large collection pressured gas to accumulate & absorb/dissipatea certain amount of sound.

Sometimes that chamber is on it's own & sometimes attached inside the end of a std tube muffler

mrfxit, Oct 18, 7:14am
Yea they do sometimes "ring" a little more then a plain steel unit

sparkles_bc, Oct 18, 10:45am
Yes, thank you mr smart ass, but I was referring to the above post(s) where people were referring to a Coby as a type of muffler/resonator, when in this case it is the brand of the resonator, though commonly mistaken.

iman007, Oct 18, 11:07am
keep it loud son!

bryshaw, Oct 18, 11:09am
My old Austin Cambridge had two mufflers, one being called a resonator I think.

mrfxit, Oct 18, 11:49am
LOL, not a problem MR sparkles_bc

motorboy2011, Oct 18, 11:54am
