How good are those 1998 to 2010 VW New Beetles! They're just a Golf Mk.IV with less space so must be pretty good I guess. Anyone have experience with them!

I bet they don't float nearly as good as the old shape. I'd certainly love to try because any car that comes with a factory fitted dashboard flower holder deserves to go for a swim!

the 2 People i've known that had owned these complained about excessive oil consumption, ie, 1L per 1000ks

Yep they get a bit too accurate with some of these retro cars they make em as bad as the originals too, Now if someone could reintroduce a good car from the 60s theyd really have something

Not an unusual complaint with these

If you want to pay a fortune for an ageing 2 door Golf with a lousy boot and a so so reliability record, go for it.

I was about to protest then, but looking out my window on my driveway I see the huge oil patch from my old '73 bug, and I know I have about 16 miles of receipt paper for oil for it as it just wouldn't stay put.

New Beetles! What did they sing and are they as god as George, John, Paul and Ringo! I have heard of the "New Seekers", but not the "New Beetles"

A poorly re-designed , poorly packaged , very average-dynamically ,underpowered car , assembled by people who think refried beans and mince is good food. Stick with a Mini if you want the "retro" look.

Nothing retro looking about those new 'minis' (I guess that's what you're talking about, unless you meant an actual mini) lol

LOL.exactly why they're so popular.they have all the attributes of the original Beetle! Haven't noticed any complaints on here about them, many more problems with late model Golfs and Polo's. Saw a one year old Polo the other day.lady parked it, put the tranny in park, turned off the motor, but the key wouldn't come out of the ignition!! She ended up starting it again and driving around to the dealer she bought it from.

well , I suppose they look more like the orig. model than the Beetle does , (even if they are 3 times the original's size) , but they drive well and apparently are built well also. I would have one of the last 2001-ish originals in green with the "minilite" wheels in my semi-affordable dream garage though.
