Wondering if anyone can help me Wanting to know if you can move to the middle of the gap in traffic island when crossing busy 4 lane road where there is no median marking on road.

Don't know what you mean but personally I would never want to turn across two lanes of oncomning traffic and I think it should be illegal to do so.
Why can't people go up the road a bit and find a safer place to turn around and come back on your intended street! To do otherwise is plain lazy driving that sooner or later will hurt yourself or someone else.
In answer to your question, Yes it probably is perfectly legal.
