If it were me, your rego (licence) label would signify your annual rego, annual inspection AND compulsory 3rd party is paid up.

i dont understand why people would want to keep it6 month!
is it because they want others who dont look after there car to not have a longer period or are they never servicing or looking after there car. or are they all profiting from the wof incom!

I work in the automotive industry , if warrants became a yearly thing, sales of parts would drop , garages would close or let staff go, and be think seriously about taking anyone else on. Keep it at 6 month.

Pretty much the split I felt after talking with people in the trade on a daily basis. I remember many years ago when Tauranga got a testing station where we all had to go to get a wof, from there the wof has become an industry all of it's own NZ wide with the likes of vtnz.
Our vehicle fleet has improved significantly over the past decade, yes there are the plonkers out there, but many of them are happy to drive without a wof anyway and would require the police to find them. The rest of us look after our vehicles or don't do the milage to wear things out in 6 months.

why would the sales of parts drop! That's like saying you will get paid less if you get paid fortnightly rather than weekly. In theory twice as many things will fail each wof (if yearly) so in total the same amount of parts will be sold. I can however see places doubling the price of a wof as they will be issuing 1 wof per car a year and not two.

I do understand, my car is safe, however some of the shockers I have seen out there they need every 6 months or they do nothing. Its not about jobs or money, it's about safety

That's it right there, Nothing ever changes in this country without an unproportionately large price increase. Sick of it all.

Annual inspections in NSW and the fleet there sure aint new and parts shops on every corner and their system is pinkslip(WOF) then buy your insurance then register your car.

Very different environment in Aussie to NZ.
NZ is mostly a country of extremes of winding/ twistinghilly /flat & all seasons possible in 1 day

Aussie is mostly hot & flat

THEN theres our most common roading surface which chews up tyres & gets ground to sand which clogs suspension parts

mrfxit, Oct 13, 2:54pm
1 year wof up to 10 years old.
1 year wof Up to 15 years for very low km
6 monthly woffor pretty much anything over 15 yearsbut could be certed for 1 year for vehicles of VERY low km's & or total restoration

outbidyou2, Oct 13, 3:55pm
why bother changing it again!

smac, Oct 13, 3:56pm
OK England then - freezing cold, heat waves, more rain than Westport, snow, SALT.

Or Canada.heat, snow, salt, rugged.

The list goes on. The "NZ is different" argument just doesn't hold water.

wimwom, Oct 13, 4:27pm
a fact proved by the volume of cars given coloured stickers even though they have current warrants! The system as it stands is riddles with problems, the swapping of parts, lazy inspectors, people not up with the play and the quota system that does exist. Many fails are just rubbish to keep the figures within the expected !

thejazzpianoma, Oct 13, 4:30pm
With respect, if that really did happen (and I doubt it would to that extent) then it should be allowed to happen.

Business's that rely on the government making a false market for them through legislation are never good for the country or the economy.

Its a bit like when people get upset because government jobs get cut. That is actually a great thing because we pay those peoples wages through our tax's and to keep them on for the sake of it, well we may as well just give them a benefit!

Much better for those people to be freed to hopefully find employment producing something useful that that fills a real need for the country or even better can be exported.
