People forget that 1 or was it 2 Lada 4 door rally cars came to New Zealand and were campaigned by a Russian team - this was 1980s Lada 1600 VT 1.8 Twin Cam engine - the cars finished the race - but there was some problem exporting them back and so they were left here - in 1990s it was reported in NZ Classic car one was found on local Kiwi farm stored away and in same livery as it competed in the NZ Rally - I often wondered where it is now!

Just waiting for 'someone' to come on and tell us that Euro cars are the bees knees and are so far advanced over all others. The Ladas were based on Fiats, after all.

Very, very loosely based on FIATs. The biggest part they copied was the rust and unreliability, they got that down to a tee

A friend of mine drives one. Its got nearly 300k kms on it. Its very reliable and even though it lives outside (in Milford, near the salt air) it has minimal rust (I welded up the floor for him).

so that rally lada is down near napier somewhere, and i think they said some farmer dude owns it.GEE motors reckon it has webers and fancy stuff all over the engine, they say it will rev to 11,000 rpm !when thet fist told me about this particular car, thought they were bull dusting me, now entirely possible
