Cam belt Q

Hi, Is the drive belt the same thing as the cam belt!

No, it's a different belt (also known as accessory belt or fan belt), for example it typically operates power steering, alternator (generator), air conditioning and sometimes water pump. Some cars have two accessory belts.

Cool thanks for that. My car has a slipping belt which causes it to whine like hell on start up. I was told it was my drive belt which was lose. Does this sound right! Cheers for your help.

yes. thats exactly what it will be. On most cars, very easy to get to and quick job. And if per chance the belt is old and needs replacing, on any car I have dealt with (not heaps- im not a mechanic by trade) are relativly cheap.

And some have 6.

cambelts cannot slip, they have teeth. If a cam belt does slip then it means the teeth are stripped and your engine has probably just gone bang.

Some have tensioners that can need renewing. A thoughtful mechanic wouldadvise you about this when doing a cam belt
