Holley help!

Ok, we've got a 304 Holden with a 600 vac sec on it. Couple of gaskets were leaking so i got a service kit and changed the majority of the gaskets, the needle & seat (x2) and power valve. We put carb' back on and turned on the key (electric pump running into regulator) to check for leaks, all good so turn the key, motor turns 'bout half a revolution then stops. Seemed to me it was locked up, turned it by hand (strong bar on crank bolt) and was quite hard (more than just compression). Pulled all plugs and turned by hand, easy, took carb' back off, spun motor on the key with no plugs and holy cow, the amount of fuel that came out of #7 hole was huge.
Ok, so number 7 had got to compression stroke and because it was chocka with fuel it locked up. Alright then, pull bowls off carb' to make sure needle & seats are seating & make sure we didn't jam anything putting it back together, Yep all's fine, put carb back on, plugs back in, sort leads (the timing has been set 180 out by previuos owner so took some working out lol) Hook it all back up, turn the key, starts (royghly) then dies, wind it over again, NOPE, locked up again. So tomorrows job is plugs out again.

Has anyone got any ideas why #7 is filling with so much fuel as to lock the damn thing up!

TIA guys.

PS: Was running perfectly (except leaks) before we pulled carb'.

Don't take much to make a holley needle valve leak-and tis easier to bench it wiff dat electrickity fuel pump-BEFORE ya fit it and fang the plugs in.
[Reckon dat motor juss stopped in da same place and filled da same cyl.]

Check your float levels. The fuel should just be at the bottom of the screw hole on the side of the float chambers. If you haven't wound them down far enough it will flood the engine very quickly, especially with an electric fuel pump running.

Yaaar Mon.i got a service kit and changed the majority of the gaskets, the needle & seat (x2)
Ya remove the screw bung on da side-and wind those new needle and seats upski and doonski until the level carb has a fuel level that .just.
sits on the bottom of the ole bung ole.
shakey shakey spilly fuely.
BUT.
Ya knew dat aye!
mmkay. **Tui**-mmkay box!-LOL
[Quite plausible scenario-buy new -fit new-and don't ADJUSTnew.]

Would this be the same electric pump that used to supply the fuel injection on the 304!

attitudedesignz, Oct 21, 7:03am
No, that one is disconnected and has an external pump now.

My first thought electric pump too much pressure how else that much fuel get there un less float leavel ,u mite need new kit now !
304 use low volumepressurefrom tank first pump second out side tank is high volume pump is this the pump u using! With reg set for injected !

There are two pumps. One inside the tank, and one outside the tank. The one iside the tank is a low pressure high volume pump. It will still drown a holley.

Sorted.
