kvman., Oct 23, 11:39am
recently i went to put my moter vechicle redgo on hold as i was nt going to to use itfor a while due to an overseas trip. i purchased a 12 mth stiker in aprilof this yr. as there was still about 6 mths in credit i asked for a refund for the 6 mth perio( about $ 340.00 worth.) iwas told by the ltsa agent .we don t do refunds. .she said i could DEREGISTER it and i would gat a refund.but then it would cost me another new redgo to get it legal again (about 700)talk about every thing being geared for the system. and they reckon buracracyis fair. i thinkthe system sucks.

Your going on an overseas trip for 6 months and your worried about$340.
Sure the system sucks,I have classic cars and I have to pay for a minimum of 3 months just to use the car to go for a legal drive (probably about 3 days in 3 months.
Can I pay your 6 months rego to get a 6 month overseas holiday for $340!

Apparently you can register it for 1 day if over the counter at a Post Shop.

i believe you can get 1 months rego if you want

if i remember right there is also a problem with that you can only extend by 1 month or days if the registration has not expired or is on hold. not 100% sure however but there is something that stops you like that and its a special form to fill

How much does it cost to register (licence) a private petrol car for a day (under 40 years old and subject to CVL and if such a car was already on exemption would there not be complications and extra costs involved with taking a car off an exemtion for the day and the likely need of having to put it back on after the day.
It would not be as hard on a car over 40 years old not subjected to CVL but I think the costs may outweigh theyearly cost.
Is there a link to registering a car for the day.

More importantly what is a redgo and is it safe to hold one!

Can't spot anything online. Phone NZPost and ask.

To register a car for one day, or short periods, you need to use a MR27 form "Application to change licence expiry date"

Absolutely, categorically OK. I hold mine constantly, sometimes wave it about when the need arises. I've never had any problems despite Clive Matthew-Wilsons opinion on redgo wrangling. She'll be right mate!
