Why would he be pissed! His record stood for a bloody long time and nearly killed him getting it.

And was done on a real road on something worked, not just an off the shelf supercar. Can't see the point of it all really having a NZ specific record. Should be reserved for custom built chassis and custom modified engines etc.

NO. Doing it in anything that goes fast enough is fine.

It's hardly an "off the shelf" car, do a bit more research on it.

The "off the shelf" lambo makes 530bhp. This monster has been worked to almost 1500 rwhp.
that is hardly an off the shelf supercar. Perhaps as has already been mentioned, you should do some research before putting your mouth in gear.

That makes it worse, tuned in the US, no kiwi ingenuity involved just money. Now if it had been someones heirloom HQ worked by a team of kiwivolunteer enthusiasts I might get excited. Off to drive the same car now on Need for speed hot pursuit LOL

Interesting to note the world record in 1929 was 372 kph
It was all he had to show for maiming himself getting it.

Could have been a whole heap worserer than that too, helluva prang.

Sad to see Racing Ray Williams road registered record go after all this time too. Thatin car video of him hanging on for grim death on the Hauraki Plains was quite frightening. Doing the record on an air base doesn't quite have the same magic somehow.

Over what distance was this new record set! 1 mile or 1 kilometer

Owen Evans set his record on Goudies Road near Murupara. At one stage Rodger Freeth held the record, set in a single seater Indy Car imported from USA especially for the event. That was done on Canal Rd, near Ngatea on the Plains

I think if you spoke to the drivers who set records on public roads I think you'll find they had little choice. Not many cars have the horsepower to get enable them to get to record speed, maintain it over the required distance and then stop safely over the length of Ohakea, so a long, long road to get up to speed using tall gearing, was the only option. Ohakea has also not been made available for public use due to insurance issues, so Eddie Foreman gaining access to Ohakea was a great achievement.
I have scoped out Goudies Road in Reporoa as a location for my own LSR attempt, and I can tell you, I wouldn't run 150mph on that road, let alone the 200mph plus that's now required.

Owen had the balls to do it on a public road but new record holder had the brains to do it somewhere safer.

And is doing it on a salt lake cheating too. hope he goes for the mile record too soon.

He did it over 1 kilometer. Owen's record is for 1 mile, (1.6 km), which is the international standard for distance speed records. Records are set over a two way average, and over the flying mile (or km).

-Owens other record, the 1 km, was the one broken by Freeman.

Just watching the Cambell Live piece now, I think Owen Evans is being a bit of a wank over it all if you ask me.
