From Waikanae to Upper Hutt via Akatarawa Road! It looks like an interesting drive and I just wondered about the condition of the road. Thanks for your help.

Long and winding road, narrow as well, not really a nice drive.

Yes it is, It's OK to drive, just not your pleasant scenic type drive.

The main issue is visibility. A lot of blind corners with not enough road to get over if it's anything other than two small cars.

Oh buga. Well that settles it then, won't be travelling that road. Whats the best way to get to Upper Hutt travelling south on SH1!

One of my favourite "drivers roads" in the area. last time I didit I was in a fully loaded "band van" and I still enjoyed the drive, not for the faint hearted though.

Thanks. Never considered myself fainthearted, but not too sure about one of the passengers who will be my 85 year old mum, but I'm sure she will enjoy the view.Should be interesting.lol.

Oh well, we will give her a good stiff sherry when we get to the motel and that should sort her out. hehe
