I've never done seals on a Surf before, but I'm pretty sure you can do the top plate seal in place.

That would've been a complete waste of time IMO. They should have just spent the money from the beginning and get the pump rekitted. What a shame. They now have a butchered frankenstein.

Hi Lada-dude, no hard feelings mate. I do apologise for being harsh. And, no I haven't looked into exhaust turbine yet, but will do later on today. (I'm on call this weekend + 3 kids + wife + small lifestyle block to look after.you get the picture.).

If the top plate has two or three sensors on top, one might be secured with a big nut from the top, if so, you'll need to remove that too.

The vac hose could be for the top of the pump if it comes off the intake manifold. But otherwise it's for air con idle up, normaly fitted to the side of the pump and is fed from the vac pump off the back of the alt. The top plate is easy to remove from the pump but when you refit it make sure you remove the fuel load adjuster screw from the rear of the top plate mark it and count the turns, and refit once the top plate is installed

You may want to inform the customer that even tho the leak looks to be coming from the top plate the rest of the seals wont be far away from leaking and a full denso seal kit is only $75-80. But yea ya need to remove the pump to install.

If it has Air con you will have to remove the dash pot to get the top plate off. also on the back of the plate (against the engine block) there will be another cap screw holding the fuel line to the top plate. I think this might be holding ya back
