they come in hard soft and medium but that doesnt relate to the compound,soft is for soft terrain and hard is for hard terrain and so on,so you need to get a mixture of the good grip in your chosen terrain as well as long wearing if needed and road legal if needed,those also need to be taken into consideration.sounds like you will need hard tyres

michelen MH3, will last amoung the best, and hook up awesome on dirt too.
not cheap though you should be able to get one under $150 fitted

cheapies either dont grip, round off or fall to bits. or all of the above.

that said if you need a cheapie try a rinaldo
