anybody noticed thatpaying for "renewal of motor vehicle vehicle" registration, an agency fee of up to $7.20 has to be paid when paying at one of their agencies this year , an increase of up to 1 3/4 percent. I rang NZTA and said I would post a cheque to them direct, so no agency collection fee to collect their payment would apply, they said I would still have to pay an agency fee, but I am not using an agency to collect a payment on their behalf At the bottom of their invoice they send, they list the licence fee component, no agency fee forms part of the component for the amount due for renewal of licence.

Ha, so we pay a "registration fee", that being a fee to register that we have the car etc, and then we have to pay a "registering of that registration" fee as well. Hmmm.

^^ exactly, not rocket science is it, not like its a tax that can't be avoided. This whole anachronistic practice of queuing in post offices to pay license fees should be dumped anyway, I submitted to NZTA as part of the reforms that if there was to be another way of doing it without needing a computer they could perhaps use ATM style kiosks in any petrol station that wanted them that could print the labels for you on the spot,, wouldn't be that hard to do.

You think the cost of providing a secure online transaction is zero! You have some learning to do.
Also, why wouldn't you expect to pay an admin fee if you pay direct to NZTA! If you pay at NZ Post or AA, NZTA pays them a commission, so that's what it covers. But if you pay direct to NZTA they still have to pay the overheads of having somebody sitting there ready to accept your archaic payment method.
What they COULD do is simply hide the costs and charge you a single fee. Instead they've tried to provide some transparency by showing you the cost to NZTA varies dependent on how you pay, and that they want to pass that difference on to you. No pleasing some.

NZTAXA
Would be a more appropriate abbreviation
