Son in law sold his Subaru Blitzen to a buyer in Wellington on TradeMe, the guy flew up and looked at it before paying for it then drove back down to Wellington. He's now decided he wants his money back. Tough tittie.

Was it misrepresented! why does he want his money back!

It wasn't misrepresented, it's an eleven year old car and he's gone over it with a magnifying glass and is now saying there are scratches etc. He looked at it in daylight before buying it for gods sake. He also claims there are some mechanical issues but it was running just fine and he drove it from Auckland to Wellington a week ago when he bought it. Six days later there's a problem! I think the term is "Buyer's Remorse".

why are we turning into a society of" sue ya arse off," when alot of it seems to be a buyers mistake by not taking the standard precautions.soon no will sell anything for fear of being hauled into court. its a second hand car tell them to get a life.

Scratches! I can't believe someone would complain about that on an 11 year old car. What were the mechanical issues claimed!

Not entirely certain but it's nothing major, I told son in law to cease communication with the guy.

Yeah, your son in law doesn't need to take that from him, he's got you to do that! If your s n l doesn't reply.what's the buyer going to do! Keep us updated.

He's now threatening legal action but he doesn't really have a leg to stand on, apparently it's developed a leaking turbo which isn't a major and not uncommon in those. There's still the fact that he drove it to Wellington without any problems.

Just tell him to go for his life

I think the biggest factor is the buyer took no pre-purchase action, no test-drive, no mechanical checks.

He could've driven it around the corner and it might have done that. It'll be interesting what he'll try and do.

You do wonder what sort of fool would agree to buy a turbo Subaru that old without getting an expert assessment first, why these people wade in with no idea how complicated and mechanically and electrically fragile these vehicles are, and that they are basically expensive trouble once 10 years and 150km has gone by is anyones guess.
