I'd been looking into them recently (always been a Toyota folk, had a Mitsi once and would never go back, only other Japa brand I've had had a goodfirst hand experience with was Mazda).
But , was wondering about Euro's.so I'm new to the field and not so up on the play. Do we have NZ New Euro's still being manufactured here! (i.e constructed here.NZ New can be a lose term but I always understood it to mean constructed here, not new to the country)
For example, for some reason I seem to recall thinking VW was having units made in Brazil at some stage ! or am I imaging that.
Take the German brands, how many of the cars over here that area German brand are actually from Germany (approx) or does the fact it is a German brand not mean it was manufactured in Germany !
Servicing costs ! how would they compare to Japas.approx .2:1 ! 3:1! 4:1!
.my current cosmetic dislike.WTF is up with the wood trim used on the inside.a real put off.

Jesus, you think that European cars get built in NZ!
Just imagine the cost of sending all the parts from Europe to NZ, setting up the plant and the staff so they can sell 200 units a year in NZ.
NZ new simply means built somewhere else, shipped here brand new and first registered here.

NO cars except hand built one offs are built in any way in New Zealand. Theclosest Ive seen is that some nissan models come in without their badges and stickers on. As for WHEREeuro cars are built. It comes down to the exact car. Japan had (has!) a rule that all cars sold new had to have a percentage of jap parts/jap assembily. USA had (has!) a similar rule with plants for some models being in the states

some ads state the car is NZ New .! to me that means its first day of life was here, not that it is new to the country .I guess there should be a defined meaning of NZ New.

By NZ New, It was sold new in NZ, ie with no more than delivery K's on the clock. If you rock into your local toytoa dealer and buy a brand new car, it is NZ new. However it was built in Japan or wherever they chose at the time. Incedentaly, it is a good 20 years since a car was assembled in NZ, and even then, is was assembled mostly from overseas sourced parts.

You beat me to it. I was made redundant in 1997 from the Ford/Mazda Assembly plant in Plunket Ave , Manukau. After the last car went down the line.

And note also that the UK car industry is on a roll at the moment, which includes building "Japanese" cars there too. I believe they are building something like 2.2m cars a year now, many for export.
Brand ownership no longer means too much as to true country of origin and many cars are now 'bitsas' with components from all over the place.

Yeah the current Honda Civic hatchback and Toyota Avensis are sourced from the UK whereas the Civic sedan comes from somewhere in Asia and the Camry is Australian assembled

Ah interesting.so based on that what do you think lures some people to a Euro given they are not necessarily 100% Euro made.possibly just the fact it is Euro designed !

Taketoyota camy for a drive, then 530i,540i or any audi with a reasonable sized engine for a drive. It's not hard to work out why.

Way back in the dark ages 1990's we were assembling vehicles that had components from all over the world. The Mazda 626/ Ford Telstar was an example. The Gearboxes where made in Europe The V6 engine was designed by Yamaha The wiring from New Zealand The wheels from Australia. etc

Can't speak for anyone else but my loyalty goes right back to being a mad keen 14 year old writing, to the major manufacturers for car catalogues.
A Mr R A Symes at BMC not only sent me a massive pile of catalogues, and full plate B & W photos of the whole range, but also got his contemporary at Austin & Austin Healey (yup, same group but some things didn't change!.) to do the same - annually.
Their equivalents at both Ford and Vauxhall couldn't even be bothered to respond, but Jaguar, Aston Martin, Daimler, Standard/Triumph, even Ferrari, did, so I was seduced by brand loyalty way back then - and it stuck.Probaby an extremely poor basis on which to buy vehicles 50 years later, but I still buy, even though Mini is now German owned and Land Rover is Indian owned but they are still built in the UK and I haven't bought a dog or a lemon yet, so I see no need to change.
Needless to say, I have never bought a Ford or GM product

Not too sure on how many Euro cars are made in Europe but if Spain is included in Europe then 3 out of our 5 Holdens are made in Europe. Theother 2 come from over the ditch and all 5 are NZ new.

My car is European made and sold new in NZ the difference is in the way the cars drive Jappas tend to be US style completely disconnected from the road you are travelling on and softly sprung Euro cars tend to have better driving dynamics.
VW makes about twice as many cars in China as Mercedes does in Germany.

What percentage of that is for export ! I understood that it was largely for the Chinesse domestic market.
