I have an eb2 wagon that is going off the road for a bit of a tart up and refresh. I was going to fit an ef engine I have lying around with the eb2 distributor and inlet manifold and throw it in as a bit of an upgrade. In my travels and explorationscame across a complete ef fairmont ghia that has been dereg but still complete. I am told these have the xr6 running gear, is that true! I was thinking of using the ef computer and wiring loom in my eb2 so I could make use of the duel length inlet manifold, then I thought "why not upgrade the whole dash/interior. has anyone done it before!aside from frustration, what are the pitfalls to look out for.

EF Ghia has the standard 4.0, the EF2, EL and AU Ghia all have the tickford 4.0.The rocker cover should be red and there should be a T (for tickford) stamped in to the front of the head.
The whole interior has been done.I've seen it on some of the australian ford forums (sorry can't remember exactly where).

I suspected that about the motors, the ef motor I have has a green rocker cover, and I think the one in the wreck does too

green rocker cover is the high compression LPG motor

ok, the motor in my shed has a sort of charcoal colour rocker cover, not sure about the wreck but it has no lpg stickers so probably the same

The engines bolt in all ok.
If you choose to keep the newer manifold etc (Which is where a lot of the power increase comes from) you will need to swap the ECU and loom over too.
Rocker Covers - Green is LPG - Black/Charcoal is Standard - Red/Tickford is the XR6.
XR6 ECU's are different again.
EF and EL both had the most powerful engines of the series.

yep, that's my plan. will the ef ecu be ok with the eb2 trans! I was gonna grab the ef power windows too, then thought why not make it as hard as I can and take the dash too, then I get the trip computer, cruise and climate control. I imagine I'd have to disable the airbags and abs as these would surely require cert.

If it is the 4 speed Auto, it is the same Auto used all the way up to BA/BF Falcon. May have a couple of different plugs/switches in the loom but if just swapping the ECU should be ok.
You will have to swap over the EF Loom as well as there are extra plugs etc for the broadband manifold and a few extra sensors etc.

yeah I had planned on the wiring loom. lol, im gonnahave me a column shift fairmont ghia spec wagon.

Is the column shift a 3 or 4 speed Auto!
allnamesgone,
Nov 12, 5:11pm
is a 4 speed, I like column shift cause it feels more natural to me. bench seats are cool too. could use ef trans but not sure on condition or ability to convert to column.
unbeatabull,
Nov 12, 5:14pm
They are the same trans.

sweet, is gonna be a fiddly laboursome mission but everything should bolt up easily enough. cool

Depends on what you have available to ya. I'd have it all done in a day, just drop the whole complete subframe out the bottom, swap motors and loom over, chuck it back in, fit ECU and away ya go

will have both cars side by side, so not too hard. will take longer than a day to swap interior too though

I would convert to manual window winders those EF elec window units are unreliable and getting harder to find and around $150.00 fitted per corner. Get a EL Falcon assembly.

I would persevere with your exisitng engine if your EB2 is a Gli, install a AU head gasket and exhaust manifold from the EF, not much difference in KW between the two!.

130kw to 157kw is quite a bit.
Can get new aftermarket electric motors and the switches are an easy fix (don't require replacing) so I'd keep the electric windows myself.

No EB2 is 130kw, they all get at least a 4.0 148kw I6.The EB1 was the last to get the 3.9
ok, to clarify my eb2 has had an ea 3.9 fitted with the eb2 multipoint and dizzy, as a stopgap to replace totally cooked 4.0, it actually works ok and is reliable as, but it is starting to show its age. I scored a really low ks ef fairmont motor that a guy has had under his workbench since the 90's for next to nothing. that is the motor I'm using for this project. The wrecked ghia came along after, if I do the conversion then I can have the broadband manifold, and thermo fans under the hood as well as a host of other goodies.

Like I said he has a 3.9 in his, so 130kw (138kw if multipoint according to your link) jump to the 157kw that the EF/EL 6 engines (or 164kw if XR engine) is quite a good boost in power.

Then by all means fit the EF :P
Seems they also reach peak torque at much lower rpm, that's gotta be good.

Not as hard to wire, as one may think, I short loomed' one from an AK city library diagram, had that x factor about the whole engine afterward.
