Right or not. you paid what you thought it was worth. Be happy with your new purchase!

rob_man, Nov 12, 5:44pm
It actually looks pretty good, a bit thirsty perhaps.

You'll have loads of fun with purpose with that'y I'm sure. Good tireless tough as nails old girls they are, done lots of work with them and on them. Been some unbelievable places in them too, never stuck me up anywhere.
That one appears to be a damn good shape too and won't take a heck of a lot to make it a top order one. money well spent I'd say definitely!
Some good spots to use it up your way d-dave as there are down in Central Otago where I am.

Looks fun

desmodave, Nov 12, 6:13pm
Its 400km away so i haven't seen it in the flesh, i just thought it was worth the gamble when i stumbled across it. Wasnt listed under cars so that gunna limit buyers.

zephyrheaven, Nov 12, 6:39pm
Looks rust free mate, be a good project or just tyres & a WOF check

40wav, Nov 12, 7:27pm
$1500 for that, you can't really go wrong, surely. They are a bloody good off road machine.

mybaby, Nov 12, 7:29pm
Good buying at that price, although you have finally found something that uses more fuel than a jeep.lol

Went over to north canterbury this morning and picked it up. All ticks over nicely and didnt use any fluids on the trip home. Its been quite well presereved with a thick layer of dust over most parts. Turns out to be 1 owner and the spedomiter is stuck on 49000 km. Exchanged some whitebait for a full tank of petrol for the trip home but theres bugger all left in the tank now .

Be nice if you could get it to run on whitebait.

desmodave, Nov 14, 7:09pm
Be nice if i could get a panel and paint guy to run on whitebait & beer.

strobo, Nov 14, 11:00pm
Yep , Ya did very well ! and a real classiclucky bugga, show offlol

rob_man, Nov 15, 6:35am
You won't, it's all sirloin and champagne or nothing at all.

desmodave, Nov 15, 7:15am
Just so happens I'm getting a half a beast next week and i find scrumpy just as good as any champagne. I'm sure deep down you've always wanted a holiday in Karamea.

The big killer on fj40s is rust. All else can be fixed. They are straight forward to work on and that being a late one Less goes wrong with them. The last of them sold in nz was 1984! Yes they do pull to the left when passing gas stations. Body looks good in the photo. Usual probs include shackle pin bushes . loose fr wheel bearings. Wear in the steering pivot and rear diff pinion nut comes loose with time. Otherwise tough as old boots.

bellky, Nov 15, 7:29am
Lapsed Reg; what are you going to do with it! Looks like a heap to me.

desmodave, Nov 15, 7:41am
Put a rotary in it. Not surprised it looks like a heap to you, your a little bit different.

bellky, Nov 15, 7:43am
Those tyres wont go anywhere either :)

I don't think you bought very well at all sorry.

splinter67, Nov 15, 7:50am
Now that's the understatement of the year change a little to completely as for the cruiser cool as a smallblock v8 will use about the same amount of gas as the original engine

desmodave, Nov 15, 7:53am
Sorry, is that a word you use often , there's no need to be sorry.By the looks of the tyres they have been alot of places.

bellky, Nov 15, 8:06am
Don't waste a rotary on that; there'll still be no appeal - will increase salvage value though.

flitt, Nov 15, 9:11am
It seemed obvious to me that he must have been joking about the rotary mod.

flitt, Nov 15, 9:16am
Hey des. Looks like an ok price to me. You've got half the rust problems to fix with that one being a ute. The rear end is the worst for cancer. You will have to check obvious places for rust in the front though. Very likely the floors have holes under all that floor rubber. Bottom of doors will be worse than they look too. Looks like it is time for some TLC and $ thrown at it though.

flitt, Nov 15, 9:34am
Hate to tell you that that is not the metal floor. That is a layer of rubber stuck to the metal floor and painted yellow. Chip that sh1t off and there will be revealed your rusty floor lol.
