Whats she into, sports, crusier, naked or dual purpose! Most dualies will be a no as even if ya 5'8" there still tall bikes. Most crusiers sit low as. And the odd sport tourer should be lo enough as well.

3108 there are a fair few bikes out there suitable for a shorter rider. Or with some adjustment will be. Without wanting to sound rude it isn't a simple matter of seat height but also about how much her legs are spread when sitting on the bike and the reach to the bars. My first suggestion would be a Honda Spada 250 which is a narrow bike with low seat height and mid height bars. Another is the suzuki Goose 350. There is a variation on the Suzuki SV650 which is great to ride but has a very low seat height. Its called a Cagiva raptor 650. That said the actual SV650 has lowering links and narrow seats available to adjust it for a shorter rider But all suggestions aside she needs to get out there and try a few bikes on for size. what works for one person is terrible for the next. WORSE part is that as a person gains experience so their needs in a bike change.

Good site for checking out the fit virtually is: http://cycle-ergo.com/ just add the bike you're interested in and your measurements to see how big it is.
The LS650 (Savage) is superceded by the S40 (Boulevard) so make sure you look for those too.Nice enough cruisers, seat height would be no problem, they are pretty low.
For the dual purpose adventure bikes, there are lowering kits available which can make things easier for we short legged people, google for "Kouba Link".

The LS400 is not LAMS.
Actually, now that I look at the list, neither is the S40.

now aint dat typical!I suspect the LAMS list was never intended to be fixed in stone -Ok I'll rephraseI know it wasn't. They knew there were models that would slip through as not being aproved. The s40 and LS400 are clear cases in point. One having LESS hp than an aproved bike and one being the same bike (basically) with a different name

Yep. It's not the only example.
The problem is (as you probably know) that the NZTA is approving specific models after being supplied information from (primarily) the distributors, who are probably not too interested in supplying information for bikes that they are not presently selling (or in the case of grey imports, never sold).
In theory, one can get all the information together themselves and submit it to the NZTA to get a model listed, if it's that easy in practice is another matter.
But unless all S40's have/are registered as being an LS650!I simply do not see S40 on the LAM list at all.

Guys, the Boulevard S40 / LS650 is definitely learner approved (LAMS).The S40 / LS650 are the same bike, just have two names. The technical name is LS650, but they are known as Boulevard S40 for branding reasons.
Also, the original LAMS list is a direct copy of the Australian list, and was vetted by the distributors. The process of adding a bike to the list id simply a matter of obtaining the relevant info from the distributor (readily available, then filling in the form available on-line.Simple.
