I have heard of nothing wrong with the diesel version of the captiva- I don't think the outlander has a diesel version! Both cars you have shown would be fine although they have done relatively high kms for their years. Do you need/really want a v6 SUV! Do you need 7 seats and towing capability!

the sheriff wants seven seats so thats what she has found so petrol or diesel would be fine.I prefer the captiva.

The Mitsu also comes with a Peugeot badge and diesel power the Territory now has a Peugeot diesel engine the same one Landrover and Jaguar uses, dont get a petrol.

I rate the Mitsubishi Outlander highly. I've spent a lot of time driving these and feel they deserve to be the best seller in the segment for as long as they were. Mitsubishi sold tonnes of these and there is good reason for it. I don't think you would regret having one.

Not too bad looking either , (but do not look at the just-released new 2012 model or you may not keep your last meal in !) As usual I see the 3l v6 option has been dropped because of the obsession with diesel. Damn those fuel prices for deleting our roads of nice-sounding smooth-revving engines. It doesn't matter "how good the modern diesel is" , the driving characteristics of an oil-burner for any enthusiast driver are all wrong.

Not a diesel man , but wouldn't the Territory be great with the THREE litre diesel that JLR use (yes yes cost etc) , if they used that and built it somewhere other than Australia I would buy one. (Would still need to own a petrol car also though).
