Hi guys. I am installing 12" sub in my car and haven't done it before. I think I know what to do so I will list what I going to do Nd feel free to let me know anything I'm missing. I have a set of good RCA cables. A good power cable. I don't have a remote wire yet but can I just use any old length of wire for that job! The amp is already mounted on the sub in my boot. One q where I earth the amp to! And Ny advice on which wires to run up each side of my car! Any other thoughts welcome :)

Let me be the first of many to tell you to run good front splits off the amp and ditch the sub.
And do a search of motoring message board while you're at it.
hey cheers I already have a really good pair of Rockford fosgate front components :)

Just need fat power cable from battery to amp, inline fuse between amp and battery, ground cable I attached to a seat anchorage with bare metal, any old wire is fine for remote wire, RCA from head unit to amp then you are away.

Few things which might trip up first time install -Before u start disconnect negative battery terminal - saves fuses, RCA+remote down one side/middle of car - power cable down other side of car, Make sure amp turns off with ignition(most new headunit colourcoded blue so hard to mess up, but if connected to 12v constant would drain battery + heat up), Inline fuse should be as close to battery as possible IE: in engine bay, Ground wire shouldn't be too long(norm come precut at 3ft length which is recommended max.) and should be secured to bare metal as some1 else said. No power! Forgot to reconnect negative/remote wire in wrong place. No sound + weak power LED/light = poor ground. No sound + strong power LED/light = anything poss. from incorrectly wired amp ---> sub to poked RCA output/cable tho thats unlikely. Protection light comes on! Can be lot of things, better to cross that bridge if u come to it, but again check ur ground. Final note make sure power and ground cable in particular are screwed into amp nice and tight, not overdone but leaving wiggle room will slowly + surely kill connectors.
