Because they are still driving on the same side of the road. No change for them is there.

I,ve often wondered when we do go to country,s that drive on the oppisite side of the road; do we have the same problem! It,s not something I,ve heard of; our people haveing crash,s and/or being killed. Comment,s/thought,sappreciated

I'd imagine it's simply because the media report what the media chooses to report.
Tourists on the wrong side of the road killing kiwis makes for a story. A kiwi killed overseas because they forgot what country they were in doesn't.
Not hearing about it and it not happening are two different things.

It does happen. I know of a Kiwi motorbike tour in Canada where on the first day one was killed on the wrong side of the road.

Na its the touristsin the road pigs crawling along&looking at sights instead ofmirrors . Get stuck behind the buggers on desert rd ,better since they put passing lane in but they still travel on centre line .

I wonder if the OP has any experience at all of driving overseas!Over the last 48 years I have been driving a fair bit here and the UK plus a fair bit of driving in several other countries, including on the right.Sorry, but Kiwi drivers are not in first place when it comes to driving standards, or anywhere near it.
I could probably assess many resident local drivers by apparent race, but will refrain from doing so publically.
At least that stupid give way to the right rule has gone, which most tourists were totally unaware of, but despite the doom-mongers, it hasn't caused thousands of extra accidents.

Can you post a link to the source of your information! It sounds like you're just making up bullshit.

Did you go and check her passport to see if she was a tourist and not a resident!
Plenty of people who have been through our licence system have done very similar things.

I have close calls nearly every day with people failing to give way, pulling out in front of traffic etc etc. muppets that still haven't worked out the new road rules. Virtually none of the people I see are tourists, most tourists I have seen driving tend to be a little slow and over cautious, but thats hardly a crime, just frustrating stuck behind them

She sounded very fresh to NZ and was driving a rental, I guess she was a tourist
Now i cant be stuffed posting a gay stat because your a knob and work on figures. Talk to the families of these people and tell them its not a problem you knob.

I treat all drivers as idiots.I have never had a ticket. My licence is squeaky clean. Some tourists yes they can be a handful when you are following them as we live in a tourist area but at the safest time you can pass them and just get on with your day.

Keep talking, people are really starting to see the sense you make and realise the lack of statistics or any other evidence is just a red herring.

What utter rubbish you spout. Go away and do your research.Look at the number of tourists vs number of accidents if you must. but don't go saying nz ddriver are GOOD or the testing is to a high standard

i havent found it a problem, the adjustment period is short

theres an intersection in the waitomo that recently has hada speed reduction & large signage erected
neither was required, but because its an intersection to a tourist destination, it gets immediate attention
the 2 tourists that managed to splatter themselves/their partner did brain dead moron actions
I must be slow then. Driven mostly in US but lots in Europe and it's ok when there is traffic around but it's a problem when you are on lonely roads such as we have here. You make a stop then without thinking and in auto mode it's easy to get caught out. I remember driving on a small island with very little traffic and I stopped for a break then continued for a few minutes on the wrong side of the road. It was very winding and just before a bus came around the next corner I remembered to swap sides. Also when you are suddenly confronted with something unusual you can often revert back to default mode and do the wrong thing.

So you're saying the ability to pass a one off test makes you immune from any future lapses of concentration!
With that attitude you sound like more of a danger on the roads than most tourists.
socram,
Nov 29, 7:28pm
True. But isn't it also a fact that most accidents happen within one or two kilometres of home anyway! Not difficult to see why.Lost count of the the number of mum's particularly, driving away, turning around and checking the kids, instead of immediately concentrating 100% on the road ahead or the driving.Oh, and they are more than likely not tourists either.
