The telstar is nice but will use lots of gas I like the toyota more

The Telstar will be a much much nicer car to drive for sure - it will be more comfortable, sure-footed on the road and probably much safer too. It is however a bit more maintenance prone (compared to the Corolla at least) and will use more fuel.

That particular shape Corolla is very reliable but is exciting as a dishwasher to drive. If you want something that gets purely from A to B and nothing more than perhaps that Corolla is the car - however the ironic thing is you pay such a premium for a car which doesn't give you much (other than above average reliability). $2500 for a 20 year old car with 220,000+kms - for something that didn't cost a huge amount when new it doesn't represent good value for money in my books. I'm sure you could find something 10 years newer which will do the same job or better for the same price.

Looks like the Telstars gone, I think the Ford is your best bet. This Corolla is OK, better than the other one last night, maybe 2nd bet but worth a look.

Toyota seems ok. Just make sure there is proof that the cambelt has been changed.

I drove the Corolla today, cambelt has been done & seen the stamp on engine, drives well, body a little scruffy, guy (nice young working guy lives with mum and is selling to move to Aussie) said he has done oil changes himself, I might offer him 1800! my local mechanic said he would give a look over for 40.00, the other Ford has sold too, the Fiesta. I went to some car dealers and they were pretty expensive for simular cars charging 4-5000.umm I kinda ledt feeling Id trust a stanger more :)

after my year! borings ok for now :) not much down here, a lot of tired autos it seems, Dunedins too small and islolated for competitiveness and choice, but if you like I'd welcome any feedback about whats worth looking at, if you can be bothered looking through Dunedin section under 4000! my budget is pretty much 2500

Pretty bullet proof sort of car, Is he OK for you to have it checked over!

butterfly2041, Nov 30, 7:18am
yes he said he would meet me in his lunch hour during the week so I could take the car to my local garage then drop it back to him,

That's always a good sign.
