You need a new crusade for your soapbox Murray. Do you know of an alternate source for 46 year old cars!

Heres the thing. If it sells for 30k it was worth that to someone, end of story. If it dosn't sell for that it wasn't.If they are worth it is another story. To you maybe not but to some it maybe cheap. If they were all listed at 5k they would be grabbed up making other sellers put theres up in price knowing there popular or sort after.Do you only sell things for what there really worth or material worth only! Why do you think houses are way over priced! supply and demand. People with money pay big money so sellers stick big money on it and at times get it. If you happen to have a mint xy falcon what would you sell it for! 5k, 10k or try for what they appear to be selling for, or at least asking. as a rule you can negotiate down in price but not up. Alot of cashed up people are seeking to relive there youth as well lol. Plus there basic old things that you can work on yourself pretty much and of course the big one.they don't make them anymore.

Can you show me another one!
But properly a bit to much as it has the wrong motor, mirrors, wheels + someone has screwed indicators on to the front guards. Would also be better if it was factory 289w V8 & auto, but quite rare as a factory ordered down spec manual 6.
Properly worth 1/2 starting price in the real world, but still a nice example.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is why just because it is 46 years old do people think it is worth a lot of money. I've worked on/driven many many different cars and IMO old Falcons (along with other models of course) are characterless and mundane. Sure something like a GTHO is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Again, pretty simple, you can't affordor obtain a GTHO so you buy a GT or a fairmont, or a stocker XY. Then ruin it by making it something its not LOL. Yes there old dredges but some people like that kinda thing.

My old boss was into his Euro's. It was a hard pill for him to swallow seeing old scruffy (common man) Fords selling for over three times what he could get for his spotless old Merc'. and as for the GTHO's that just made him angry.

Your opinion. The other side of this too is that there seems to be a resurgence in old cruise wagons. Panelvans, stationwagons etc are all increasing in popularity and a huge percentage of guys in Australia who are restoring them are choosing the spec down models and keeping them low key.
Think about it - $30k for a weekend toy would buy you a whole lot of Japanese sports car with which you could carry yourself plus one with any degree of comfort. Yes it would be reliable but to derive any sort of pleasure from it you put yourself firmly in loss of license territory. For the average guy with a family that is not sensible buying.
On the other hand something of the like you posted can seat the family, will attract a hell of a lot more attention than anything Japanese in the same price bracket, will still deliver reliability.
Having had the choice a year or so back of a genuine Sandman panelvan or a mid 90s twin turbo Jappa I took that latter and for the first three months loved it. I now regret the choice cause I will sure as hell have no chance of recouping what I paid for the Jappa. At least with the Sandman I would have.

No different to all the dreamers trying to get stupid money for impalas, galaxys etc. and the market is flooded with 60s yank stuff. At least the Aussie cars have relevance in nz.

Well its a classic and not too many around, it will sell but the price is a little high for that one. In the longer term ,the trouble with these older cars are that there so many imported vehicles from America that are having an impact on classic prices, the other factor is that alot of older people own these cars, the newer new zealanders arn't really into this thing so progressivly the market will slide a bit over time, one more factor is the New Zealand dollar.

Precisely, much of the American iron isn't particularly rare or exciting either, and was made in far greater numbers than the humble Oz built XR Falcon. Mustangs in particular are crazily priced considering they don't drive or perform any better than a Falcon thats got a similar performing motor and aren't as practical either. People must like the body styling because there aren't any other advantages to them as a vehicle.Yes there is a definite price difference between older Australian cars for sale between there and here, and far more unmolested examples that are largely rustfree too.
