[must mention also that the motor is a 3.3 6 cylinder. 3 speed colum shift is good. diff and universals have been oiled and replaced.

To my knowledge there was no 3.3 engine option in a PA.They only came with the early 2.2 and the later 2.6.The engine thats in it cant be original to the car,it must of come out of a PB or maybe even a FD.Some times there are sellers here selling new parts for Vauxhalls. What year is the PA you have.

I drove it from hamilton to wanganui 2 weeks ago. never missed a beat. topped up with about a litre of oil to come back home.[/quote]

Put a turbo'd skyline motor with a 5 speed gearbox complete with computer loom etc, modify the existing front end and put a independant rear and you would have ne bitchin PA mate, unique as and would go like hell.

If its only been chugging around town for ages and then you took it onadecent run its quite normal to use a bit o oil as it has warmed up and boiled off all the condensation etc.

I reckon a oil c hange to a 20/50 and see how it goes before you rip things to pieces and spend big dollars.

The major problem with that would be handling and braking, neither of which were much chop on old cars like this.

nah, 454 BB would be the way to go.

nothing wrong with those old girls
towed an old 17ft caravan back from Taupo to Wanganui via National park Parapara's with one, on the Aberfeldy hill the back doors opened themselves, and wouldn't close - had stretched it to the point the catch didin't meet the catch plate anymore, had to pack the pillar plate out nearly 12mm ( 1/2 inch in those days) to get them operating again lol

lol what a hardcase.

I second that!

Assuming you can get the parts where do you stop!Crank grind, rebore, valve guides, valves, oil pump, fuel pump, camshaft, followers, clutch, plugs, points, leads, carb, water pump, radiator, hoses. If the only problem is a bit of oil burning, unless its laying a smoke screen it takes alot of oil to equal the cost of the recon engine.

Why recon . often a simple rebuild will effectively do thesame job.
Rebuilt a lot of those older engines AND with s/h parts including gaskets & rings & had another 40,000 miles to 80,000 miles out of them

MILES ol fella's . not blimin km's

New set of oil seals & rings/bearing shells / crank polish/ de-ridge & hone will give about the same as a good rebuild job
