Charging a jumpstarter

Well an update on this, here goes.
I saw another web site from the US that mentioned the 10% rule - ie don't go over 10% of the amp hour rating for charging sealed batteries - so as my jumpstarter is rated at 38Ah I did as intrade suggested and bought a smart charger. It's 3600ma and cost $80 so pretty reasonable.
I have now recharged the jumpstarter a good 20 times, it gives around 6 hours power to the laptop before the low-charge buzzer goes. Fully charged it meters at 13.20v and when showing low it reads 12.59v.

I'm chuffed with this, and don't think my treatment will kill it in a hurry because I don't reckon I'm actually deep-cycling it

I've bought one of those jumpstarters for out here in Oz, good insurance I reckon. It's 38AH and a claimed 1900amp output. When on an unpowered campsite I use it for the laptop, only trouble is, the charger it came with is only 800ma. It takes forever to recharge.

2 questions: what is the maximum safe recharge rate if I buy a standard charger and just connect up to the battery clamps! And will continually deep-cycling this thing quickly ruin it!

I alway thought you left the jump pack kit on the battery to recharge it after you use it.

I usually leave mine connected to the car for a few minutes after starting to put back what I've used. You can plug into the lighter outlet of your car if you have the right lead.

what are you going to charge it with!a salt and batteryhehehe

I think these have capacitors and not batteries, not sure

use a electronic smart charger that can charge sla seald lead acid battery and it will charge fine thru the jumpers. i charge my one like that fro a supercheap auto smart charger.

Still have both 12v and 240v chargers but both of them take ages.

Connecting to the car battery for a few minutes is a good idea, been reading up on these sealed units, they can overheat easily but a few minutes shouldn't hurt.
Don't know if unit contains capacitors, I'll google it

Ah, thanks intrade, I was after something like this.
One American website said you can recharge a sealed battery at up to 10% of its AH but no higher. I would like to confirm this though.
