Had one as a rental in OZ good on gas and it went ok except for the constant downshifting on cruise for every minor hill its got no low down torque at all, not a bad car but not a great one either

Admittedly low KMs but in all honesty it isn't all that far away from the later VE model price wise.

Crikey, 15K and a sharp eye buys you the new model 05 Passat, just so much more car for the money. As grangies pointed out, when you can buy same year/milage quality German stuff for the same money you would be mad not to.
