He can carry on living in a country with no WOF and preach to us through his MTA mates why we should maintain the antiquated 6 month WOF I guess, that will give him some pocket money.

The current system would be antiquated if NZ drivers took personal responsibility for maintaining their cars to an acceptable standard. They dont, there are still many unsafe cars out there, so we need a 6 monthly policeman.

Deadbeats will still ignore WOFs like they do now, just like Insurance and Rego, nil gain.
Where have you been! They are now.Proof the current system doesn't work is fed into your tv room regularly, all the cars getting stickered even though they have a current WOF!

Anyway, back to the subject, take the hint Murph, you aren't wanted by V8SC , teams get sick of drivers complaining about the cars.

Ok back to the subject, The Kelly Krate was a dog full stop. Least relaible car out there bar none.

Dead right! So which system stacks up best, the one where the car is "fiddled" and presented for a quota controlled check every six months ORthe one where you can be stopped at any time and checked randomly! They both suffer human error but the second one will not be so quota controlled .Seeing people fail their wof for the likes of a scratched windscreen or minor rust or discolouration on a panel is plain crazy, especially when they then leave their car at home and ride a motorbike, moped or similar, that's just never going to be safer. So many bullshit things are being "added" to the list just to cover bottoms and make it "seem" like the jobs being done!

failed a car on Thursday, brake hose secured with cable tie, seat belt had rips in it, suspension mount broken, and people want to drive with POS like this on the road, makes you wonder

But that's TV, what they don't show you is the majority of cars that are up to WOF standard. Makes better TV to show the few that aren't, it called sensational TV.
wombalinia,
Dec 22, 3:31pm
Still goes on regardless of how TV present it.There are more and more crap being scribbled on WOF sheets to keep the quota system right. Most if not all inspectors are covering their butts and the picking for failure or borderline items is sometimes causing more serious stuff to be missed. If you own a older car and go to a service agent where newer cars are regularly checked your chances of a fail are huge. It's all about the stats and the inspectors trying to avoid a check. The system is crap, it's allabout money, not safety,no two ways about it.

Go for a walk through your local supermarket car park and take note of the shocking amount of cars that don't have WOFs or rego. I can almost quote the regos of a dozen regulars here in Kapiti that are just waiting to get caught. Can't find unsafe cars if the owners can't be stuffed taking them for a WOF without roadside stops and funnily enough most of the unsafe ones I see haven't got current WOFs.

Same where i live Berg, not all one's you'd expect either. There's a 2006 Chrysler 300c with no reg or wofand it's been that way for close to a year!
