My first car was a 1963 MK3 Zephyr I bought in 2000 for $3500. Thinking about getting my hands on another one sometime soon. What kind of price are cars like this going for these days!
Cheers

I had the whole zephyr range from Mk1 to mk4 as a young hoon, (old one now). Most favoured one was a Mk1 I rescued from a wrecking yard with a unknown to me at the time modified motor. Once I got it going that car went like a cut cat. Only problem was replacing axles, but that was the driver. Aaah those were the days.so long ago now.

Jeez - I paid 350 pounds for my Mk1, and that was 35 weeks wages. No wonder I was broke from that day on.
After the second axle broke - in went a MkII diff. Same for the front stubs, only that time it was MkIII suspension.
Motor blew - MkIII motor & box went in.

Memories! I had a stright Mk 1 in very nice condition and was about 10 years old, at the time. Then got me a MK2, Stroberg carbereta, extractors, sports exhaust and went like a"Cut cut. Always wanted a MK 4 but got put off, people saying they had oil pump problems and didn't like spare wheel, where it was.

You were right to avoid the Mk4 because they really did have oil pump drive problems and a whole lot of other faults as well.

Anyone remember the V8 repowered mk4 which took flight and hit the tree on ponsonby road in auck in 1981 after hurtling along newton road at around 100 mph and then up the rise.

Methinks that was a Mk 111.

Yep the MK4 Zephyr was the reason Falcons became popular in NZ Falcons were rubbish and the first models fell to pieces Aussies were horrified as their Zephyrs had been good tough cars but had ceased production in favour of the Falcon It took Ford OZ until the XP of 65 to build an acceptable car which coincided with the end of good Zephyrs here. The MK4 was crap new and didnt improve the last ones were sold with thousands of miles free petrol just to get rid of them.

LOL, that's right. We used to call them Gonorrhoea (easy to get, hard to get rid of). These days we call PT Cruisers AIDS, for the same reason.

Let's not get into that. It was a Zephyr, it hit a tree and people died.
