Anybody on here have a radar detector?

Or knowledge about them. I have turned k band off only because it picks up those signs that tell u how fast you are going. And other than that is k band used by police! Only really have laser and ka on

saxman99, Dec 23, 9:53am
The newest mobile speed cameras use a very low-strength K band.Hard to detect even if you have K band on, but the vans are usually easy enough to see.

I heard, (but don't know how true it is) that the new speed cameras in the vans that are marked up as a Police vehicle(also with "Traffic Safety Camera" on them) can also read the speed of other cars trucks and so on as they drive along and can thus take a photo. Any one know any more about this!Just re-read that - I mean as the van is being driven along!

I have, its called a speedo and driving within the speed limit, saves me a fortune.

hpaul, Dec 23, 2:13pm
As stated - the camera vans operate on low powered K band and if your detector is a cheapie you get almost no warning. A decent detector will give around 400 metres alert to these.

No point in keeping Laser switched on, if it detects them you've already been zapped and the beam is so narrow and focused that your detector may not even pick it up. A jammer is the only effective solution to these.

Nice halo, could do with a polish.

Buy a cobrathey pick up radars along way off, also trains, planes ,and cameras at the lights place them at the top of the window for best coverage

What make/model detector is it!

Mine has a built in GPS. Once looked on, it automatically learns the locations of the numerous sliding doors/road signs etc that generate K alerts, and filters them out.

Mobile speed cameras, as indicated above, use a fairly narrow and low powered K band beam. If you have your K band switched off, you'll have zero (rather than a couple of seconds) warning. If you have it on, you'll be desensitized to K alerts.

Laser, as said above; within about a second of receiving the alert, you're already being set up to be ticketed, unless you're very lucky. Not much reflection off Lidar. (unlike radar.)

.and you know how much it has saved you because you have some sort of evidence.!May we know what it is!

austingtir, Dec 24, 6:05am
Why does he need any evidence!Smarmy idiot.

matthew111, Dec 24, 6:39am
dont speed and you will save the cost of tickets and the radar. Its as easy as that.

meathead_timaru, Dec 24, 6:46am
I honestly never thought I'd see the day when they rewarded observant drivers who exceed the arbitrary posted speed limit by giving them a fighting chance to avoid an invoice! Marking the vehicles will probably be the best thing they've ever achieved for road safety with the cameras - now the knucklehead vast majority will actually know they can watch out for them and by default be paying more attention to their driving, instead of just their speed.

meathead_timaru, Dec 24, 6:46am
Untrue.

inkapuka, Dec 24, 8:06am
Its a belectronics rx 65 pro

lugee, Dec 24, 10:03am
Can't argue with that. Never had a speeding fine myself. I reserve my lead foot for once in a blue moon occasions.

nightsky1, Dec 24, 12:24pm
try not driving like a Richard Head
That'll work.
.actually the govt needs your donations
so keep paying.Means less tax for the rest of us. Ka Ching> .

tigress49, Dec 24, 1:58pm
Hey!I have not heard that word being used for years and years and even thought it had fallen out of usage.I thought how erudite you are!. Well done - I didn't see, however, that the remark was obsequiously flattering - but there you go.I must say I always think that those who claim their radar detectors (of the electronic type rather than old fashioned eyesight) have saved them heaps of times are quite puzzling.I mean, like, how do they KNOW it has saved them!

gedo1, Dec 24, 2:07pm
Let's think about that.Perhaps they drive at excess speed most of the time, but when hearing a tone from their radar detector they hit the brakes hard.I can just see it, door openers, fluorescent light, cash registers, kids electronic toys, .etc etc . yep. hit the brakes every time. Must make for interesting passenger sensations.LOL

inkapuka, Dec 24, 2:11pm
I only. Than op or 100have one because i like to pass nanas dong 100 i cruze more at 110-120 only because its cheaoer to run at that speed

outbidyou2, Dec 24, 2:57pm
Doubt that equates to us paying less tax but nice tryharder smarty remark
