My facts came from Ken Galvin, he was in the area and made an appearance at our last club meeting and gave us all the facts, even a price, and a great presentation it was as well but as your statement reads you would be correct,I apologise, he cannot buy the strip/real estate, just the business, not just the promotion as far as his talk went, the whole business, I hope it works and I hope the two differing factions can get their differences sorted for the sake of drag racings future.

Weather doesn't look too bad going by the metservice forecast. Promoters have put a lot of work into this meet, and hope like hell it all comes together. I'll be heading over for sure.

was a good day.overcast but not scorching in the sun.they had a bit of catchup do to with alot of single pass runs in the morning to allow people to get licences etc.but there was plenty of racing through the day.One of the imported american cars blew an oil seal and could not run but they reckon it will be good for the 3rd/4th jan!Was good to see the old phoenix still going.Did not stay to the bitter end so someone else may know who came out on top!

Yip, great day on Saturday, oh the crackle & pop of nitro! not to mention the smell. Good to see the old Phoenix and Flashback lighting it up again. Glad we went in the end, great crowd there

i got a report from a mate who went, said there was no timing boards even tho they claimed they had so flash new ones. the PA was hard to hear, but thats normal for Taupo, apparently a lot of down time on the track & they didn't even finish racing before the 6pm curfew. But what was racing was good, just not enough of it.

PooroldTaupo ,always seemed to have timing board troubles since day 1. Thought they boughtwhole new system .Their PA system isbadeven forcircuit racing ,sometimes it doesnt work at all& not even the FM broadcast works .

been there too many times, watched poorly organised racing, can't really be stuffed going back till they can run smooth meetings. when they get things like Timing Boards & the PA to work well so you get to see n hear whats happening will be great. but long down times, no seating, no shade from the sun make it a long day. but then the TV people make it look good so i'll watch it there. not everyone sez it was good. spoken to 3 people now, they all said it was average with same old issues. i'm sure in time it'll get there but until then i'll just wait for it to show on telly so i don't waste too much of a day.

Ken Galvin of Kumeu show fame has bought the Taupo drag strip, hence the new name "Taupo Thunder". He has proven himself with other ventures so I am hoping this one will improve as time goes on. The old chicken and egg situation here too, no crowd, no money, no money, no racing so it really does need patient support and remember that no-one controls the weather so thats a done deal no matter what, the rest can only get better. If Ken had not picked up the deal and run with it, it was going to close up so get behind Taupo Thunder if you can and be patient and positive, use it or lose it as the saying goes.

the best way Taupo can improve is to get more racers there for the spectators. unlike Fram & Ruapuna, Taupo only accept NZDRA licences so straight away they've limited themselves to who can race there. Masterton is trying to get approval to accept all licences but the NZDRA diehards are trying to prevent this, Ken Galvin is even taking Fram to court to prevent them from running Nationals at that track even tho there have been more Nationals at Fram than any other track in the country. so Ken on one hand is trying to help, but on the other is doing his best to damage the sport. a no win situation.
